Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a piece of media that literally changed the world/had a real world impact?
4·9 天前Refuse to? Buddy, I’m hunting for them. I don’t have to do this anymore and my family gets a big payout. Sign me up.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What current drama do you have no opinion on?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What current drama do you have no opinion on?
3·12 天前He’s wish fulfillment. There are people out there who want to be terrible but can’t because of IRL consequences.

I look at it like this - the self hosting nature makes the whole system more robust because there’s no single point of failure. Lemmy as a whole will be fine. We will lose an instance or two every once in a while (RIP lemm.ee) just as you lose a schoolmate or coworker, but the system/environment lives on.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What happens to phone numbers that were used for spam?
5·13 天前You’re correct but it’s unlikely. Assuming there is no protection for this from the phone companies, there are 10 digits in a phone number which is 10 billion numbers. Making some assumptions, you have about 1 in 1.2 million chance to be struck by lightning each year. Round that down to 1 in 1 million, you’re 10,000x more likely to be struck by lightning than have a spammer spoof your number. You don’t worry THAT much about being hit by lightning. You’ll be fine.
Caveats - lots of averaging going on.
It’s called a gun, so I vote yes.
Freaking love gerwalker mode.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What movie terrified you as a child? Or what character?
29·15 天前Who framed Roger rabbit, the scene with the judge guy putting a shoe cartoon into the acid barrel.
No joke this is me. I had a major surgical procedure a decade ago. It was a 3 day hospital stay to recover. It’s one of the most relaxing, peaceful times of my life, even with all the pain and nurses checking on me. I remember it very fondly.
Biscuits and gravy - the way I do it - make American breakfast sausage crumbles, add flour and butter to pan to start roux, add milk to make roux, pour over southern American biscuits.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When did you realize you were out of touch?
12·19 天前It wasn’t the first time I’ve noticed, but a huge one for me was Weird Al’s album “Mandatory fun”. I had no idea who a majority of the artists he was parodying.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I wrong for refusing to help my father?
3·21 天前If someone isn’t in your life 98% then what do you owe them? They chose to create you and are obligated to provide for you. Sounds like they even failed the legal minimum, I’m guessing. Your parents are obligated to create a relationship where you want to do things for them.
GrayBackgroundMusic@lemmy.ziptoHacker News@lemmy.bestiver.se•Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged menEnglish
7·23 天前Huh.
-same

If you assume that legal means we’ve collectively decided that this is or is not okay, then it’s not a weird starting point. IMO it shouldn’t be the end point but it’s USUALLY a good starting point.
