Pardon my ignorance here, does this eventually extend to Silverblue and thereby Bazzite? Or are those further removed?

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Half-Life: Alyx updated to bring Foveated Rendering on desktopEnglish

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Half-Life: Alyx updated to bring Foveated Rendering on desktopEnglish
4·10 days agoYeah, I also got to play through Black Mesa as my first ever HL1 experience last year! Very cool, although uh… not especially balanced for controller, VR evens the scales a bit, which is why I waited for the Steam Frame rather than playing them back to back.
I’m finding the experience pretty interesting. The game is great, ofc, but I’m finding VR affects it in a few ways. Firstly, way scarier, I have a visceral “hell no” reaction to head crabs here that I didn’t in Black Mesa. I’m also finding some of the puzzles much harder for whatever reason, I think because of the sense of scale and immersion. Need to put more thought into exactly why that is though. Gunplay is dramatically better than it was on a controller, ofc. I still need practice, but I can pretty reasonably go for headshots now and aim fast enough for head crabs.
All in all, solid experience, eager to finish it. I’ve got a lot of story questions and such too, which is rad. I must be one of the only people playing HL2 spoiler free around. Also eager to play Alyx too, ofc, and see how that differs in that it’s designed bespoke for VR.

14·10 days agoOh, excellent! I didn’t realize that wasn’t already supported, but that’ll be an excellent feature for when I get to it (Currently working through HL2 VR, my first ever playthrough of HL2).

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•No AI was harmed in the making of this post
11·15 days agoNot a lack of knowledge mate, your friend was giving you the benefit of a doubt that you didn’t find “Rosa Park’s OnlyFans” so funny that you messaged him about it. As you’ve said, she’s a civil rights icon, so it’s pretty reductive to make a porn joke about her, especially when that… doesn’t really riff off anything specific about her. If it was at least a joke about “Harriet Tubman getting railed” (which would still be in poor taste) or something, you could call it dark humour, but the joke you shared is essentially “hehe girl nekkid” targeted at Rosa Parks. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if the person who had that username was a racist and being dismissive of Rosa Parks intentionally. Probably not, I know how multiplayer lobbies can be, but it’s not a good look regardless.
He clearly knew who she was, he told you when he asked for clarification, and the timestamps suggest he didn’t have to look it up either. To be overly blunt, you don’t look the brightest that you’re so confident he’s an idiot for giving you the benefit of a doubt, when if you’d given him the benefit of a doubt, you wouldn’t be publicly embarrassing yourself trying to shame your friend. I’d assume that’s the cause of nearly every downvote you’ve received on this post.

Linux@lemmy.ml•AI disclosure is no longer required for the Linux Kernel
83·16 days agoYeah, at this point I think it’s somewhat of a useless distraction. They do the validation work to prevent any problems from it, but an immense amount of drama seems to arise every time the topic comes up, and I’m sure Anthropic (and many insufferable AI bros) have been crowing to high heaven that Linus Torvalds uses it.
They’ve clearly chosen to allow it at the highest level for anyone competent enough to validate the work and stand by it. Claude/Gemini/ChatGPT won’t be answering reviewer questions about the implementation, that’s up to the human standing by the work, so they only need to know about the human, from a practical perspective.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Former Valve writer says Gabe Newell has been pretty clear about Steam: "It's an MMO"English
13·20 days agoIntriguing… I’ll say, clearly most people don’t use the platform that way. But to those who do engage with Steam that much, folks like CS2 case addicts, I can certainly see it. Stuff like cosmetically building out a profile, making sure you have an impressive inventory, the freebies they always give out during sales and events… yeah. It’s reminiscent of endgame MMO behaviour, when you’ve beaten all the content and just run around looking for rare stuff to show off to your guild.

Linux@programming.dev•100K Penguins! Bazzite hits 100,000 weekly active devices, growing 14k devices in the past 3 months.
5·24 days agoIt’s kinda like SteamOS, but not. Not managed by Valve, a little more cutting edge, a hair more performant, a hair more customizable, but also immutable, and also very gaming-focused. Comes in flavours for handheld PCs, regular desktop, or home theater gaming PCs, KDE or Gnome, and supports AMD or Nvidia.
Like SteamOS, it’s immutable, very beginner-friendly, while also being very open and modifiable like any Linux distro. A strong recommendation for any gamer who’s sick of Windows, so it’s seen amazing growth.
