I tried Strattera for a few months but it made me feel physically ill all the time, and honestly I didn’t think it had much effect on the ADHD. Other than that I haven’t gone too far down the rabbit hole, my coping mechanisms are pretty good, thankfully.

Similar but different story: in my 20s I was too high functioning. In my 30s I got on meds annyway and it made a huge difference. By my 40s unfortunately, it seems like every stimulant-type drug makes me feel like I’m on the verge of a 12-hour-long heart attack. So here I am off the meds and living with all the noise again :/

  • You weren’t “operating” on the Uranium in as much as observing its radioactive decay. The radiation (alpha particles, which are basically Helium nuclei) go through glass. So I think you’d put the vial in front of the Geiger counter and it would click. Or you’d put it into the little cloud chamber and you could see the trails of the alpha particles as they shot out.

  • It was a commercial flop (probably because it cost $700 in today’s money and could do 4 only somewhat-interesting things), so even though it looks crazy today, safety wasn’t the reason it was pulled off the market. That said, the U-238 samples came in tiny glass vials that you were instructed not to break. But if you did break them and then ate one of the chunks of Uranium it could do some pretty serious damage inside of you if it wasn’t expelled quickly. But that point you’d also have broken glass and a rock-swallowing habit and probably other problems that would kill you before any kind of radiation-induced cancer would.
