  • It is so hard seeing this shit still tearing families apart. It sucks because these are important issues, not something you can agree to disagree on, and it hurts to see your family go down the insanity rabbit hole.

Found this out the hard way during covid when my mom laughed when i said someone I knew had lost a parent to covid and I wanted to check on her (despite us not being on speaking terms anymore). She laughed outloud and called it a scamdemic and called my friend’s family stupid for taking his mom to the hospital, because “thats what really killed him”.

I had the same kind of shocked feeling of now having to call into question everything I knew (and also everything I was taught) by my mom, including her level of empathy for others.

  • I got invited to a thanksgiving dinner feom an extended family thing that was being put on by a wealthy person in the family I barely spoke to. It was at a private cabin that was larger than any house ive ever lived in. There was an entire chef team making dinner including appetizers that people brought around on tiny trays. I was dressed in a tshirt and jeans and being waited on hand and foot the entire time. This “cabin” had artwork taller than me on the walls and a big centerpiece fossil as you entered the door. There was a TV that only popped out when you flipped a lightswitch.

The dinner was amazing but i also felt so weird not helping with anything. I also kept worrying about how none of the staff could eat the food? Like? You’re here on Thanksgiving cooking for another family some top quality food and you aren’t even allowed to eat it?

The whole thing wad awkward and made me self conscious but the rich side of the family acted like the chefs and waiters didnt even exist.

Something ive noticed about AI art is it enables people who see themselves as “idea guys” to pump out every thought they have, call it good enough, and display it proudly like they worked hard at it.

When you make art you take an idea and that idea is shaped by external factors. Your skill level, your medium, how you collaborate if you are, all of these things influence what you make and that influence in turn changes your ideas. You may have an idea of what you want to paint, and during the process of painting come to appreciate the beauty of texture, and the next painting seeks to explore not just your idea but what you can do with the medium. Artists usually seek to push themselves to learn and explore and have their art change them as much as they seek to create the art.

But an idea guy only has interest in the idea. He doesnt want to do the process, he has no desire to be changed by his work. He has an idea and he wants an end product, and AI allows him to bypass that pesky learning to draw/paint/create business. It removes limitations in medium and skill level and spits out something close enough to his idea that its serviceable.

And I think that, to me, really signifies how much the idea guy values ideas over everything else. It takes all the work out of creation, and the lack of craftsmanship in the ideas is very telling in the final product.

  • There is in every country. I’m aware of it and keeping an eye on it, but its not even compatible to how it was in the US. I lived in a small town that had “the only good liberal is a dead liberal” bumper stickers on the back of every other pickup truck, and a giant confederate flag painted on the side of an apartment building. Rape and murder were weekly crime statistics and people would try to run over stray cats as a type of local game.

The worst thing ive seen here is two drunk people yelling at each other about football.

  • I have moved from the US to Spain. I have 0 regrets. I’m healthier, the people are more friendly and love life and their families. America is a shithole. Every day I get updates from my family about how awful things are, and i never regret moving.

Life feels so …normal here. I have worries but its not a constant dread hanging over my head. Most of my life I have had GAD- Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I used to get frozen in thought loops of nonsensical dangers, like someone randomly shooting my husband or a car accident or something. Those episodes have almost completely stopped now. I rarely have panic attacks anymore.

Im healthier, have no more debt, I dont fear the people around me… Its peaceful. I also visited the UK and it wasnt the same. It was too roudy, still friendlier than america by far , but very raucous.

Here in Spain its quiet, and slow. I prefer it so much.
