In my opinion, the best way to minimize the killing of animals for food is to improve cultered meat production. In general, all it needs to do is become cheaper to produce/buy than regular meat.

A vegan diet is up to 30% cheaper today. No need to wait for some hypothetical new alternative to meat. There is already vegan meats. You can always swap to a different alternative whenever it comes out if you want.

this study only looked at retail costs. it didn’t account for anyone who gets free or subsidized animal products, or who raises, hunts, fishes, or traps their own. in other words, it didn’t consider any poor people.

they are not considering cases where you get free products from animal agriculture

Yes and they also did not consider getting free products from regular agriculture. So let’s say it balances out?

instead of guessing why don’t we just say it’s outside the scope of the study, and the study doesn’t actually tell us whether being vegan is affordable

Brother even if you get meat for free the remaining food you buy would still be 30% cheaper if it was vegan according to the study so idk why you think you can just completely disregard that.
