I have to restrain myself when someone tells me I have to follow some trivial arbitrary stupidity while the people who make those rules commit the most heinous crimes right in front of our faces while laughing about it.

“Well DMV person, I actually do know that it’s ‘not allowed’ and I knew it when I did it too. For you see, I do not give a single fuck about what I’m allowed or not allowed to do with a shitty little piece of paper that I own. So either accept it or don’t.”

Good luck with going back to the DMV after you wait in the line for social security to get a new card :)

Honestly, you can get away with quite a lot if you’re just nice to people. I always have good experiences with customer service and I feel like it’s because I try to be kind and to treat them like fellow individuals-also-just-trying-to-get-by-in-life.

It used to work all the time. Companies actually care about customer service ratings. In the past decade or some, there’s been a shift to customer service closing calls earlier and saving money. A lot of places either don’t have competition anymore or their parent company owns the competition so they don’t really worry so much about customer retention.

It really depends. If the individual you’re talking to is able to do something for you, it’s much more important what that individual perceives than how that company as a whole operates.
