Increasing amounts of US capital are flowing into Germany’s traditional industrial firms and family-owned businesses. As many business owners struggle to find successors, more companies are becoming acquisition targets.

Not the first time. Example: they are afraid of german supermarkets in america because there employees have WORKER RIGHTS!! THE HORROR!!! And from i see Aldi and Lidl and Edeka in the US are perfered by even american customers
They’re allowed to sit, can you imagine the pearl clutching!? I’ve actually seen a boomer in the wild complaining about an employee on their break sitting against the wall outside. Evidently it’s not dignified. If a company doesn’t prioritize cruelty, they’re afraid of it.
Do the employees of their US subsidiaries have European-style working conditions? Other European companies have embraced US-style union-busting in their US operations.
I’m not sure about the company structure for their international markets. So I don’t know the rules. But from what I’ve read they brought their concepts of shopping cart “deposits”, cashiers working at unexpexted speeds and - oh the horror - chairs for their cashiers to actually sit on during work.
If you are employing in germany, or are a german company employing outside of germany, the employees get all benefits from german employment and all work laws from germany apply
Unless you are WalMart, who tried to disobey German laws and culture, and failed spectacularly.
They hadnt and that is why they failed among many other things
What if you’re a US company wholly owned by a German company?
Not a lawyer but i’d say because it is a german company still they have to adher to that. Idk!
That is just false.
Yeah I can confirm that people here who have access to an Aldi will use it and speak very highly of it. Every Aldi I’ve seen here has been extremely busy. I also personally prefer Aldi to practically all chain grocers… although nothing can beat a local Mexican grocery store imo, and thankfully I have been lucky enough to mostly spend my life in areas of the US that have those.
