I remember playing Deep Rock Galactic drunk. “Oh, its a low Hazard level. Surely I can drop a nuke and we all won’t die”

Well, I found it funny at least…

Drunk gaming is one of the most fun and frustrating things. It’s a good way to test the risk of drunk driving without getting in a car.

I remember trying to play Forza on two tabs of acid. It was hilarious. Ultimately unsuccessful, but hilarious.

I loved drunk Alpha/Beta PUBG. I have almost passed out laughing with my partner in one of those motorcycles with the sidecar. Deep into a match trashed, and I’m driving us on totally flat ground, approaching a building. The bike suddenly rockets into the air for no reason, like… into the stratosphere. Did a ton of flips, both of us just glancing at each other and our screens… falls all the way back to earth and BOOM.

….it lands right-side-up. Somehow we’re alive. It does not bounce. It is slightly on fire, smoking. We took a lot of damage. We both get out and slowly walk into the building as we’re cracking up.

Oh how I miss early access PUBG. Such an incredibly fun mess. Before all the bots, before everyone was one tapping everyone from across the map (singular), shit, even before the chinese cheat adds in voice chat during warmup.

There’s not a lot of things I feel like I could’ve missed out on, but god damn am I happy I was playing PUBG from the start.

Soooo many people complained soooo hard about every aspect of the game. The lack of map select (when another map was added), how hard the gunplay was, useless drops like clothing all around the map, insane vehicle physics. All of the reasons I loved it so much. It was such an equalizer, dropping somewhere far away and looting tons of buildings and finding a mediocre kit, getting the drop on a pro player and scoring their M4 (amazing back then) only to die to your Dacia flipping because you hit a twig.

Gosh we really did not miss out. I yearn fondly for the early jank days, and I’m so happy I’m not alone. I quit the day they added bots and haven’t played since.

God! Such a good experience. Looting half of school, hearing people all around you, just finding clothes and finally, an m16 with 30 bullets! Shit, but doable. Then getting fucking whacked by someone with a pistol who was hiding, terrified.

All the useless stuff was a big part of the charm. You knew, no matter what happened, you were never really in control. You played the cards you were dealt, and sometimes the cards were just too shit, but at least you found a trenchcoat, so you looked baller while getting hunted.

I quit for a while after they added bots, and tried again years later. It was just not the same.

It’s a beautiful part of pc history, which I’m not convinced will ever happen quite like that again.
