This Earth, only home i will ever have had, isn’t truly mine. No, i’m just a passerby here … it might yours if you don’t feel how weird, how wrong it is.

  • Nice link, simple excerpt :

It was previously thought that colliding heavy ions such as lead – which is over 200 times heavier than the protons typically collided at the LHC – was the only way to create the conditions necessary to form QGP. But recently this premise has been thoroughly challenged, including earlier this year when the ALICE Collaboration, which specialises in the study of this extreme state of matter, reported a new sign of QGP from proton–proton and proton–lead collisions. And last year, the LHC Collaborations opened up a new probe of QGP when they found the first hints of QGP from oxygen–oxygen collisions. Now, having searched even more deeply, the LHC experiments have seen multiple signs of QGP formation in oxygen–oxygen and neon–neon collisions.

  • What works well thrives, loves, lives and prosper. What doesn’t and hates, eventually is superseded, or destroys itself, or shrinks and dies.
This applies to ideas, political movements, civilizations and even species. Life is a self-organizing mechanism, operating throughout the universe, that, although for a time produces suffering, does eventually find solutions against illnesses. By doing so, it rearranges itself into better configurations.

i do want to believe in a better future and because of that i don’t even believe that the Big Bang Theory, with its conclusion of the heat death of the universe, is entirely true.

  • The broader implication is that we need not develop agents only by deciding in advance what they should practice and optimize. Alongside tasks to solve, we can give them rich and safe playgrounds in which to explore, discover, and learn. Perhaps some capabilities are best taught by tasks. Others may need something closer to a playful childhood.

Of course, and like anyone else, a.i. needs to play in its childhood to fully develop.

  • LLMs are not the ultimate evolution of artificial beings and emergent properties shows that simple systems can produce more complex capacities.

i want to believe in a better future although science gives us reasons to believe otherwise.
We humans are limited and mortal so having artificial bodies to give us eternal life and extended capacities could be good … but it also could be a disaster if billionaire psychopaths were the ones to get these powers before good people do.
