  • I’m not warning anyone. That would require talking to them, screw that.

I’m the somewhat creepy next door neighbor vaguely spotted on the way in as a little spook to set the tone, who watches the shenanigans from the kitchen window but doesn’t answer the door when they inevitably follow the light onto my property at midnight. I just keep watching. I’m not getting involved with my insane neighbor, but I own this place so I’m also not leaving. This shit happens every few years, and I’m over it.

There are plenty of other people passing along those warnings, if they didn’t listen, that’s what they get.

  • Boy that’s a tough question because I actually am looking at losing my eyesight in a way that could potentially be fixed by such things, and I am generally supportive of the idea of being a cyborg (anyone with a pacemaker is already one, some of them get great joy from hearing that)

I think it depends if they can put me sufficiently under for the surgery that I’m not consciously aware of it. I don’t think I could undergo brain surgery awake. My anxiety is waaaaaaay too bad for that. I’d be a disaster.

I would also need assurances that the device would be useable for my entire lifetime, or could be replaced as needed, unlike joint replacement which you only get a couple tries with, IIUC.

I probably wouldn’t be super into replcing good parts, depends what the perk is… but most of my parts are wearing out already anyway so thats only a concern for a short time yet.

  • I had teachers like that. I was reading well beyond my grade level (I read the third pandemic and sphere in 5th grade, both roughly college-level, I just had a dictionary with me).

Fifth grade teacher said I couldn’t understand them, they were beyond my level. I mouthed off to her and told her they might be beyond her level, but not mine. I got detention.

I told my mom what happened, who then went in and laid into that teacher. She bought me the books for my birthday, and gave me the dictionary so I could understand them, because teen and young adult stuff was no longer long enough, I’d burn through the books in a few hours, tops. Big complicated books were the only thing that kept me occupied. She was not willing to allow some rando to fuck that up. Needless to say that teacher never said shit to me about it again.

Did have that detention. I brought my book and didn’t even care about being sat there for an hour. So that backfired.

I hope your daughter gets that love back sooner or later, maybe just need a cooling down period. For me it never faded, I just lost all reapect for that teacher because even then I knew it was stupid to judge someone for doing something they enjoyed.
