There’s nothing wrong with picking a machine that is harder to maintain if it’s more fun to drive or has other benefits, people don’t buy or restore and maintain old sports cars for prestige, they maintain them because they like the machine for what it is.

My bike is harder to maintain than a scooter because it uses foreign parts, has to be kickstarted most of the time, and needs oil every 200 km or so, though it’s still extremely practical. I could sell it for what I paid and buy a scooter and have the dealership take care of maintenance, but I wouldn’t enjoy the experience of driving it nearly as much.

I am looking at buying a much less practical zx-25r, and just keeping this as a backup in case I need to move 3 or more suitcases at once or the new bike isn’t running.

I don’t have a spare tire in the car, so a blown one would definitely mean a missed flight

  • Microwave design in America infuriates me ever since moving over here.

Used to be you just press the number for how long you want, and then enter the power and 30% power meant max power for 3 seconds, then off for 7.

Then they stopped turning on the microwave when you press a number and you had to find “cook time” among the 15 different buttons for specific types of food that never turns out right or require you to look up a chart, it was faster to just press “add 30 seconds” 8 times.

Then they removed the “add 30 seconds” button.

Every evolution was more expensive and fancier, but replaced the most basic functions with things that I have literally never used or heard of somebody using.

Then I came to asia and half the microwaves have two dials: Time and power, and power actually lowered the heat instead of just boiling and then letting it wait for 10 seconds.

  • No corporation has ever done anything out of the good of its heart because they do not have hearts, you are still treating them like people instead of entities that exist exclusively to extract money from you while giving as little money to its workers as possible.

They’re doing it in lieu of actually making it a good platform to buy from.

Nah, giving the workers more money and me free games does more to make a platform viable than features. But doing shit everyone hates like filling your store with slop games that can’t be identified until you’ve already paid is a dumb decision.

  • ??? I’ve been going there every few months for the last 2 years and haven’t gotten sick. I do know a couple foreigners who got sick, one from cross-contaminated pre-cut fruit, and one from some diner they were invited to party at. I did have mountainside-clearing farts when I went to Korea the first time tho.

people getting/skimming “gutter oil” out of trash cans and sewers to use for frying street food.

Oil does not grow in sewers and trash cans. Old oil can be stored in cans buried in the sidewalk or in bins behind the shop. That oil is recycled for industrial processes, though there was an issue where people were buying that refined oil to use in food like a decade ago.

There’s no reason to put oil in the old oil can and then take it out to reuse when you could just not take out the old oil.

The food safety isn’t great in asia as a whole, but the gutter oil thing is taken massively out of context.
