Sounds like a good time to apply for a job at SUSE.

It’ll show foresight and initiative, to be ready for when they realise they need to hire more, not less.

I’ll take this as another chit adding corroboration of having chosen well to avoid it. Annoying as is from the outside, wasn’t about to turn-coat and join them. Glad to have explorers like you to report back.

Some distros do blur the line even for those who can distinguish the two.

Like asking a fish how’s the water, and they respond “what’s water?”.

And of course, they’ll know about GNU Hurd, Ironclad, Plan9, Haiku, Solaris, IRIX, Kolibrios, TempleOS, SerenityOS, FreeDOS and Android. But will they have heard of Ginux or Pluto?

Same.

Seems there were indeed a lot of us who loved it, and have now lost it.

feels like how linux used to feel back in the day 😅

…

I am choosing to have faith that it will be ok for a while… given there are few alternatives.

There are many alternatives, if you’re keen for “feels like how linux used to feel back in the day”.

I nostalgically fetishise similarly… and look to the likes of wildly alternative kernels (e.g. ironclad, not just hurd), and graphics servers (e.g. pheonix, not just xlibre), etc. … And then there’s nostalgic fetish beyond that, to 8-bit, to ceefax, to basic, to rubber keys… XD maybe not all so practical or wise-learning.

And to think, I spent all that time learning, striving, to overcome the dyslexic and low-verbal-aptitude hurdles… only to end up looking like the adversary. A-ha! I knew school was anti-human bunk! XD

Oh. Exactly the sentiment I came to share. Felt the pressure to stop using them, just to avoid looking like a bot. ~'s my fave character. Bot appropriated. :/

legacy debt hindsight, tragedy of the commons, … oh why did we not think of the children, the future…

A change of font can ease the “ugly and clunky” a bit, on shallow aesthetic level at least. Rainbow delimiters too. There be ways to put lipstick on that pig.

While The Gulf of Mexico (formerly known as Dreamberd) says “Hold my drink”.

“All your RAM belong to us.” – Slop Bros.

Such great educational examples of narcissistic detachment from reality, has me wonder… is it a race condition?

(Link added just to avoid unintended pun interpretations there. I know you all know what a race condition is, here in Programmer Humor.)

Oh, at first glance at that image, I thought it was a reference to Arthur C Clarke’s The Nine Billion Names of God [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9UQyfHxWK8 / https://pdfroom.com/books/the-nine-billion-names-of-god/avd96xR0gKD ].

First they came for the 6s…

Better than I could do currently, I bet (without trying), but a couple points come to mind, from art college a quarter a century ago…

Unless going for a kind of denisovan look, could do with another line or two higher from eyes to top of head. Eyes in the middle, and then account for hair too.

For getting eyes looking female, I try imagine the middle of the outer upper corner being tugged out a little. Mostly got this here, but could be more pronounced.

Looking good. Got soul.
