Linux@programming.dev•Linux kernel devs drop obligatory confession of AI tool usage
11·11 hours agoI hate to be that guy but there are compilers with non-deterministic optimization strategies and they do tend to be the most performant. They’re just generally disallowed in major project distributions because the maintainers want the artifact to be verifiable by and end user for security reasons.

8·1 day agoThe problem here is people will beg for the opportunity and plead that they’ll take it seriously and it’ll be life changing and then ghost you at the first sign of actual work.
Finding a decent apprentice that won’t waste your time is a chore in and of itself

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Intel Announces The GPU D Series For Crescent IslandEnglish
4·3 days agoThere is an actual hardware reason for a lot of this unfortunately. Some apis are emulated in the drivers on cpu or gpu shaders instead of being implemented properly in dedicated hardware paths. This is especially true for dx9 and dx10, partially true for some uncommon dx11 and dx12 functions.
Iirc battlemage is the first Intel GPU line that has proper hardware implementations for the entire API, or at least complete enough that it doesn’t massively affect performance.
Fascinating read/watch if you want to learn more

01·9 days agoIt means more software is about to go cloud-only. Decompiling Photoshop wouldn’t have any value if all the actual work is done via cloud GPUs and raw bitmap layers are returned instead. Double bonus for the shareholders you get software as a service and you also get to rent compute by the dollar on top.
