There is.

Thanks. I guess I’ve had enough Internet for now.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Valve has ‘a significant number’ working on Steam’s visibility dilemma but says it won’t gatekeep games made with AIEnglish
1·5 days agoI won’t rehash that argument for the umpteenth time. I’m not going to change your mind, and you’re not going to change mine. Summed up, my retort is that if the AI “stole” content, then so did every artist who ever watched a Disney movie, and every author that read a book, and every programmer that looked at a repository. Theft inherently means something is gone, and the original owner no longer has it - nothing is gone, nothing was stolen.
You listed off a bunch of reasons why data centers are rationally hated, and I agree with you on that. However AI is not a data center. My open weight models running on my consumer hardware, powered by solar energy isn’t implicated by what data centers are guilty of. Yet you would apply the same labels to it, and it would draw the same irrational ire of people who only know “AI bad” because it’s the popular sentiment right now, and probably will be for a decade.
I’m not ashamed of my use of technology any more than you should be ashamed of using a computer - built in a factory, using rare earth minerals mined from our environment, likely utilizing dirty energy, potentially built by exploited labor, and statistically likely to be powered right now by dirty energy.
Usually I would agree with you that omission is lying, but as I’ve said, admitting you used AI will earn you nothing but scorn, with absolutely no benefit for the admission. If an angry mob knocked on your door and asked if there are any vulnerable people in your home, you’d be justified in not answering them at all, and simply slamming the door shut, and locking it. Then ignoring when they keep knocking. This is the same concept. Sometimes “lying” by omission is the right choice.

1·5 days agoIf that were true then the labels wouldn’t even be necessary. People could just tell. But they can’t, hence the labels.
Who said anything about lying? Just don’t fill it out, and ignore any accusations. They don’t do it because they’re embarrassed, they do it because irrational people have prejudices.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Can anyone overthrow Steam on PC? "As long as Valve is independent and not a publicly traded company," analyst says it looks impossibleEnglish
71·6 days agoI’m amazed you’d say that honestly. What about Steam is not really good? Personally I love the meta-gaming of the platform itself - leveling up your profile, participating in events, earning digital collectibles you can showcase. I also love the fact that a game remains in your library even if it’s no longer available for sale. And it’s great to be able to go into airplane mode, and still have access to your library. What are they missing that would change it from “not really good” to “good” or even “great?”

I think, for people like you, they should just have a random number generator - 0 Steam say it’s not slop, 1 they say it’s slop. It would make you happy, yes? Since you’re basing your entire decision on something you can’t actually discern.

11·7 days agocan be proven.
I don’t believe it ever can be proven. It’s simply hearsay - unless someone was recording the developers machine during development and then release a screen recording. Otherwise it’s the developers word versus the accuser’s, with Valve having to act as arbiter. You let me know if that ever happens, please, because I sincerely believe the scenario is an ant-AI pipe dream. A veneer of protection.

I’m not sure what you mean. They definitely won’t run out of WoW or GTA6, since they’re both digital only, so I assume you mean Ocarina of Time. I bet they will stop selling the physical version, but I doubt they’ll run out before the end of the year.
