  • Uncertain of how jurisdictions are broken up for this power; but construction/inspection warrants are far easier to get and dont require the same level of rigidity as a search warrant. This was my uncle’s realization of what type of people police really are. He was a construction contractor who obtained a construction warrant for a building that police have had their eye the residents of for years, and the police showed up to the facility when he did to get around the requirements for their search warrant, basically using him and his construction warrant as an excuse to search what they had wanted.

Something something, drones looking for construction failures --> contractor gets a construction warrant --> police have a way around a search warrant.

Also edit: This is a secondhand story from a while back, and the caveat of the construction warrant was that they could not enter unless someone answered the door. That being said, many people know not to answer doors for police, but construction workers? I can see even myself falling for that one.

Not that there’s not merit to the mainstream right having more firearms than the mainstream ‘left’, but I think you might be discounting how many people left of the center are firearm owners in America. If you’re speaking from a perspective of civil unrest leading to political violence, I dont feel any group will have a hard time obtaining firearms, rather they’d be bottlenecked by the amount of supporters they can find to wield such firearms. A lot of people are talk, yet when you give someone a gun and say they might die for a cause, it vastly lowers how many truly want to enact violence.

  • Not saying we should limit those essentials, but you do mention a phenomena that we should be aware of, and that’s that any damage to economics at any level tends to have a ripple effect, whereby normal people wind up feeling the pain in some form. Could be as mundane as layoffs from “cost cutting,” in response to the need for more security, or loss of assets, or anything really.

Call me crazy, but I’ve had this thought about a lot of “boring” architecture. Why don’t we just say it’s an open graffiti spot, so that these large boring walls turn into something colorful on the outside? It’s most likely only gonna be as high as you can get a ladder, but I feel that’s better than nothing. Some people will certainly spray profanities on it, but graffiti spots already exist in some recreational areas, and those bits tend to get sprayed over by someone else, whereas more beautiful sections tend to remain far longer without being touched.

  • This is good news, and gotdamn I’ll take my wins where I can get 'em, but just to clarify, its a victory with caveats:

    • A warrant or probable cause is enough to use ALPRs
    • A subsequent Oklahoma legislative discussion over this matter did not put forth outlining repercussions for violating this new restriction.
    • And likely most difficult of all, the 30-day history was what considered it a search. All Flock would need to do is decrease the history to a few days, which is still just as useful for most investigations, for it to not be considered a search. After writing this out, I learnt Flock already had plans to reduce to a 7-day window.

So again, this is a good thing despite these flaws. I’d rather have some limits than none at all, but keep pursuing this. The fight has always been about whether this tech should be allowed or not, not whether or not you need to look suspicious. I can’t help but feel that until a large case at the supreme court happens, our best route is still via legislative endeavors. While its scummy that politicians are only now addressing it when they’re around an election time, it’s still gaining traction nonetheless.

It is rough that many types of peanut butter contain the sugar content they do. Really deceptive with how significant it builds up to being once put into perspective. I encourage y’all to try plain peanut butter, just nuts and salt. Gonna be a slightly different experience, but the peanut intensity is just so much greater, and man its much healthier.

Speaking from experience, as I am actively eating it now.
