25·3 days agoYou think that’s what an “enraged” comment looks like?
No one said it’s a major problem, just that we’re used to such good quality even from cheap mass mfg that something like this is unusual.

Technology@lemmy.world•Solar Panels Are Now Producing So Much Power That They’re Leaving Nuclear Plants in the Dust: "Solar is now the engine of the power transition."English
1·8 days agoThat’s kind of the point; it’s not a straw man, it’s saying that the options should be considered on their merits not on irrelevancies. “There are no bonus points added to the scoring just because nuclear looks cool when it glows”

6·8 days agoIt doesn’t need one perfect solution, just needs the best solution to become dominant. Obviously solar is not perfect or even best in every situation, but you don’t need 100%.

92·8 days agobatteries degrade over time, meaning we will need a continous way to replace them, and since most manufacturers of batteries are located in China
Batteries are largely recyclable and worth recycling, at least the ones of the scale used for grid-scale power storage.
And manufacturing can be done outside of china; it’s just a bit more expensive.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some idioms that no longer make sense? Can you think of a modern replacement?
33·16 days agoThat’s because it’s backwards. Should be “eat your cake and have it too”
Edit: While that preserves the form and is recognizable as the common saying, it makes the meaning clearer if phrased as “Eat your cake and still have it”.

But also it’s possible they worked in a place that cares for people with dementia, they didn’t say it was a co-worker. Plenty of retail jobs might have frequent encounters too.
What makes you think it’s not a pentagram?
In general:
- I would rather not wait. This mostly benefits everyone: user gets to see what is coming, developer gets feedback, and depending on software maybe user can start getting the benefits sooner
- on the other hand, it has some risks: maybe devs spend time fixing problems instead of bigger “building the system” tasks. Maybe users get attached to the “pre-release way of doing things” even if the final release is better. (Early access game mods can be very vulnerable to this)
Complete vs simple software, it depends on what the job is. Some complexity is fine, and some bugs are fine, as long as there is a plan to get to where you want the software to be.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•[META] Fuck ads: I recommend adding a rule to ban watermarked comics here
0·7 months agoDo you have some examples of “ads” or watermarks in comics?
IMO artist signatures/names or comic titles are not ads.

Uh, so what are they now, just sugar and vitamins?
