  • Also in Belgium. You know that the Belgian army was in the Congo during that period? That means government support. The state literally gave him the money for his “purchase” and also paid propagandists to promote it. They also took it over in 1908 officially and continued to exploit them, enforcing an alpartheid, and kidnapped thousands of children. Our grandparents were literally the ones doing the kidnapping.

You know that belgian citizens cut off the hands of children and workers, mass raped women and children, and mass executed people in the Congo? We can’t hide and "b-b-but Leopold acted alone, it wasn’t Belgium" our way out of recent ancestors committing genocide. King Leopold never even went to the Congo.

This is exactly the same as saying “america didn’t elsave millions of african people, private people and companies did”. It still happened. The american government also aren’t the ones physically killing children in Gaza.

  • Absolutely.

We have to rely on some good resellers, of which there are few.

Tinytronics.nl is my go to for central Europe. Not that much markup, fast shipping, good service. Of course their stock is limited compared to the vastness of aliexpress.

For components, RS and TME are the only sellers that sell to individuals in the EU and their stock is miniscule, especially for MCUs. You can barely find any stock from EU MCU suppliers. You literally can’t find ublox Nordic chips in the EU as an individual. You can’t find raw Nordic chips where you have to design your own antenna that were released in the past 7 years in the EU.

It is honestly scandalous how shitty the EU electronics distributing market is for products that are literally made in the EU.

  • No IMAP, doesn’t support open standards, proprietary encryption, no compatability with 3rd party apps/mail clients. You get forced to use their app and have none of your mails locally. Also, since their encryption is proprietary, they only support password less encryption between tuta users, so 99% of users will only ever have encrypted mail with the tuta advertisements/announcement (though they market the “encrypted” angle extremely hard.

Not to mention all of their apps are exclusively web and electron and perform badly with a very very barebones user interface and options. Also the search is pretty bad. All things that would be fixed if they support open standards. I really dislike using their apps and interface with my account.

  • AI in and of itself isn’t shit. It’s the training data and the ethics of how that data was acquired that determines whether or not it is shit,

And adittionally you know, the massive amounts of energy, destruction of local computing accessibility, the mass surveillance built into every chatbot, directly supporting and enabling of fascist regimes, the water stealing and toxifying, destruction of local communities, and not last or least, the Observed decline in brain function (also not limited to AI, but many digital tools, sadly).

The only models that skip this are locally trained and run models on solar power.

Of which it is maybe what? 0.01% of the AI use of the world? Less, if we are being completely honest?

Proton itself uses Mistral, OpenHands, OPMO, and Qwen under the hood. Again, not ethical or avoiding any of the above problems at all.

  • Ah, yes, this should make EU electronics manufacturers, who literally do not sell their products at all to individuals in the EU, forcing them to go through Chinese and US corporate import distributers, much safer and more accessible for the EU citizen…

    /s

This is going to all but wipe out the electronics self-repair and DIY industry, but that is one of the actual goals. Corporate-bought slimy excuses for MEPs want you completely dependent on their corporate masters.

Forget about trying to fucking buy a motor anymore. EU companies, again, literally won’'t sell to individuals.

  • And this happened in the US too, except 5 million people, not thousands.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Kings_protests

We here in the EU love to shit on Americans because they are stupid. We are just as fucking stupid or even stupider because we are repeating the exact same mistakes less than 2 years after America broadcasted theirs.

Here in the EU, literally exactly the same thing is happening. Corporate sponsored fascism. It is all in our Parliament and Comission at around 26% representation (chat control, fascist policies, even gaming holidays with racist tricks like “must be an overwhelming majority against to NOT pass, while everyone is on holiday”).

Italy is controlled by a fascist party, luckily the Dutch fascists just lost control because they did such a spectacularly bad job, Germany and Belgium fascists are reaching almost a quarter general support, Austria has fascists winning a plurality, Croatia, Czechia, Slovakia, all have fascists in the controlling governments.

France’s fascist party with Le Pen literally has more support in France that America’s MAGA fascists.

France is the only one doing anything as far as actual protests, and they are getting shit on by every country’s media the exact same, even the 90% identical talking points as how American media shit on BLM and No Kings protests.

  • If I could rate HMD as lower than last, I would.

Absolute worst phone I ever had (when they were still lying with the Nokia branding). I had to change the USBC port 6 times in 1.5 years of using the phone because they used such garbage components.

Camera was worst I have seen, software was the buggiest I have ever used, headphone jack literally never worked from day 1, unusable bugs lasting months, and the battery was not the worst, but worse than average for sure. Plus it was as expensive as the pixel a series for a much much worse phone. I can’t remember but I think it also had a locked bootloader.

It is good that it is semi-repairable (everything is still glued) because everything breaks constantly. I have never had a phone even in the same class of shit.

“It technically functioned” was really its only positive point. It looked pretty nice too I guess.
