Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What basic or everyday thing did you recently find out you were doing wrong?
1·5 days agoI hold my breath and swallow first. It tricks me into swallowing the pill so I can breathe again sooner.
You don’t want to crimp store bought cables. Thin ass wire coatings. If I want to crimp a cable I got a box of ethernet to make custom length.
That said I only crimp when I need to do a run and always keystone a wall jack where I can. It helps I’ve got loads of premade.
I’m a hoarder for “useful” things. I control it by using containers as well. Those really cheap shoeboxe totes are great.
I had a giant box of cables. Used those boxes to sort types. Decide I don’t need 10 extra component cables, PC power cables, headphone, odd USB, etc.
I pick a threshold for each type and toss/strip for wire.
Also. Please throw away any ethernet cables with the clip snapped off…

I don’t tip for carry out. Tips are for good service. Meaning I tip after service is rendered.

Turning that off topped off my storage and I’ve been over 90% ever since.

2·16 days agoWhat I’m going to miss the most about the loss of DVDs and Blurays is movie extras.
One main reason I bought so many movies on disc was getting to watch deleted scenes, bloopers, directors cut, directors commentary, cut scenes and more. Even the silly custom menus.
All of that stuff is now a lost art. Everything evolved into a consume then move on race to move onto the next thing.
Tiktok, vines and shorts. Massive attention span decreasing content in a race to feed dopamine.
I reget not buying more stuff on disc. I also feel into the streaming pit of “oh I can stream everything now”. I never got SG1 complete saga on disc. Would’ve been great to get deleted scenes, bloopers and all that.

3·16 days agoI see this as a feature most people wouldn’t actually use.
Only use case I’d have for it is wanting a game to render at higher specs while travelling at like a hotel.
I bought a steam deck for a vacation when it came out. Used it on the flight and that’s it. Never played games except at the airport so I was fine rendering at the steam deck.

8·17 days agoI recall in the early 2000s my web master mentor told me you should be able to get to any page on a site in 3 or 4 clicks…
Seems like a good standard for any UI design. 3 or 4 steps to get anywhere.
Its literally a dozen steps to get to some settings in windows.

14·17 days agoMy big gripe with windows 10 is them putting half of settings in the Settings app but you still need to dig out the legacy control panel for stupid shit like audio device management that makes sense.
I blame Microsoft for that

Its one of my favorite ‘making it’ movies. Pure fiction. Nice ride with a great ending.
Its right up there with October Sky and Finding Forrester.
