  • because of my ADHD, I tend to run a bit on the verbose side of things.

Feel that. I’m sure my speech patterns and propensity to be long-winded will eventually bring me some AI accusations too.

Problem with LLM tech is that if it truly models speech it will eventually be indistinguishable from humans - scary thought but what are you going to do?

I mean, I think you can kind of feel off of vibes if something has used or is AI but it is becoming increasingly harder to spot.

  • Look if someone thinks you’re Claude because you bothered to test your code that’s kind of sucky. But then again the fuck do I know, I don’t contribute or maintain anything so that’s just an off the cuff take.

At some point we’ll have to acknowledge that AI doesn’t mean inherently awful and bad IF it’s used responsibly and in a helpful manner. I don’t think LLMs are intrinsically bad but the way these companies have been marketing them and trying to make them some technological panacea that’ll replace all the people and fix everything is utterly deranged and divorced from reality.

At the end of the day they’re large language models, their job is to come up with what the model “thinks” a person would write as an answer to whatever the prompt is. They’re not magic and I’m tired of people anthropomorphizing the shit out of LLM / “AI” and acting like AI output is being delivered by the machine with some sort of logic and knowledge and oversight. It is not.

  • This is anecdotal of course and TMI but honestly same with my IBS-D. I tried keeping a food journal for a couple months - didn’t matter what I did or didn’t eat no through line stuck out.

Seems my main trigger is anxiety and stress which sucks because there isn’t too much to be done about that at times.

Cutting down on coffee helped me some but still enjoy a cup a day or maybe a couple cups - same with caffeine in general - slamming a couple energy drinks paired with a coffee or two - recipe for poop city (probably goes for most folks though).

Anyways you’re not alone in your whole, “I have some weird stuff going on with my GI tract and it doesn’t seem to line up with any dietary restrictions”. As always, a chat with a doc is not a bad idea, you might be able to find some relief.

Best of luck on your journey.

  • I think it’s a touch more nuanced than that but yes the plot does follow Hari Seldon’s creation of a school of thought and study called psychohistory.

The main plot is that humanity would be plunged into 30,000 years of dark ages full of bad shit but Seldon believes following his plan it can be shortened to only 1,000 years of real bad times for the schmucks born then.

Like you said, one of the themes the books talk about is the paradox of knowing the future and if you can or can’t change it. If you know the future and do something to change it to be different from what you predicted - does that mean you did or did not actually know the future?

  • The books are awesome. The concept of being able to (more or less) predict the future and trying to shepherd humanity through various crises that will alter the timeline and trying to rescue us from our own nature is a fun one.

The nature of the story doesn’t lend itself well to adaptation in a visual medium but the show is decent (it does deviate some from the books and mess around with the timeline some to make it work better for TV). Can’t speak to the movie.

The Foundation Trilogy also was published 1951-1953 and you see a lot of ideas that became mainstay scifi tropes in their early form. For example, it’s easy to see the influence Foundation had on Dune.

  • Honestly the Nazis were not this Uber competent group. Tons of in-fighting, poor strategic and logistical choices, and they did not run the government nor country in this rigid orderly way that is and was projected by their propaganda.

I would say they had a very good propaganda campaign that’s still ongoing and paying dividends. Once you look under the surface some and start learning more about how the country was governed it becomes clear there was plenty of room for improvement.

I mean, think about it this way, they chose to commit an industrial genocide on a hellacious scale wasting men, material and destroying the soul of a nation. How much more manpower would they have had if they didn’t commit these crimes against humanity and instead had drafted these folks.

Like I know it’s not a great comparison or awesome though experiment and lacking any nuance but I think it makes a point.
