Jeez, you can get a 10-yo desktop computer for less than that at Re-PC.

Plied means made pliable, as in easy to influence - it can be done with alcohol and drugs, sex, money, promising to make things great again, etc.

Don’t be so sure that’s the nation or culture you’re living in - millions of modern people don’t mind that Abraham was about to kill his own son as a sacrifice until God stopped him.
Funny that the robot is from NASA - NASA didn’t make the decision to declassify Pluto as a planet, and probably doesn’t GAF. This was decided in 2006 by the International Astronomers Union at the end of the last day of their 2-week conference. The vote was taken after more than 80% of the 2500 attendees had already left.
Yes, the vote was held at the end of the final day of the two-week IAU conference, when fewer than 500 of the 2500 attendees were still there. This scheduling was almost certainly a deliberate move to take advantage of the predictably low number of members who would still be present.

Same with beer if you think about it.

That’s my attitude.

Thanks, I was wondering about that because somebody told a new user they had a specific number of upvotes, and it was way more than the current thread so I assumed it was cumulative for their account.

Also depends on individual mods, some of whom seem to interpret the job as being the thought police rather than helping the community run smoothly and be a good experience.

I honestly don’t know or care what my lemmy karma is, or even where to look for it.
Also I’ve been banned from a reddit sub and a lemmy community for asking questions I honestly didn’t know the answers to. Reason given in both cases was trolling or ragebaiting. Some communities are highly insular and suspicious of outsiders who don’t have the group mindset. Someone here called lemmy “diverse” - that can translate to a diverse variety of monocultural echo chambers.

LOL just ignore karma points, they mean nothing - I don’t even know what mine is or where to find it.

Yes, Reddit’s advantage is that its niche communities are much larger, so there’s more interaction than in their lemmy counterparts. And fortunately those communities tend to be more friendly and non-political than the more mainstream areas.

Also expect some fierce emotional venting that thinks it’s an “argument”.

Ignore karma and just have fun.
I know it’s supposed to be, but it’s too over the top to make that point. Like trying to teach good manners by using armed robbery and arson as examples of bad manners.

That’s any hivemind for you tho - everybody in it believes they’re very well informed about every significant aspect of something, and absolutely confident in the set of collective opinions.

One of the obstacles to self-driving cars is the unpredictability of human drivers. Even as good as tech already is, if we could somehow completely start over with ONLY self-driving cars, they would be so much simpler, not to mention saving about 40,000 lives per year. If human-driven cars were invented today they’d be illegal.
Reminds me of getting a game CD in a box of cereal - might have been Pajama Sam.
