This was on hackernews this morning.
The author is in the passkey business.
The most pertinent question there imho was : What do passkeys offer that random strong passwords + a pw manager do not?
There was a wall of comments, but no concise answer.
======== You buy a new super secure lock for your house, but to get in you go to one of the 3 conveniently located HomeDepot’s in your city. You simply prove your identity to the guy there. He verifies you in the system. Then he gives you a one time pass to your house.
If its such a great idea, you can pay me now to do it for your home.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•I imagine that instead of beating TLS, state actors work with Cloudflare and the other CDNs who terminate the connection to listen in.
6·10 days agowhy wouldn’t that be the purpose of cloudflare? the system is designed to do what it eventually does. Not what we are told, hope, or dream.
cloudflare in its service, provides a clean, efficient way, to centralize, a decentralized independent internet. Giving whoever holds the keys to cloudflare control over those resources, for whatever purpose. Ban’s ? Instant. Shadow ban, easy. Hoax (redirecting traffic) simple. The idea that ‘but they’re not supposed to’ is childish.
Never give people power over you. Ever.

the idea is that there will be a ‘central repository of trust’ and it ain’t you. the step of moving that to ‘verifying you’ is short. the next step of monitoring you comes for free. the next step of managing you is the plan.
