  • I wish they were motivated by workers’ rights though. I don’t understand why the EU never makes a deal about this.

A massive part of the reason that Chinese goods undercut European ones is that workers in Europe are entitled to a reasonable amount of time off every week, sick pay, minimum wages and so on.

Import tariffs on a particular country (aka customs duties) based on worker welfare in that country would help protect workers inside the EU and also encourage other countries to improve conditions at home.

  • Look it’s great that you’ve got some imaginary being in your head that has helped you accept yourself as you are.

It’s honestly great and I’m sorry that you grew up in a very religious society which can be intolerant of behavior that does not conform to tradition. Do you think that this upbringing could be the reason that you want the blessing of an imaginary* being, one that you can tell yourself is superior to humans, especially those who have hurt you?

    * By imaginary, I mean only existing in your mind, otherwise invisible, leaving no clear trace in the physical world. For religious people, these attributes make that being special, and full of potential. Think of what such a being could know or accomplish, unrestricted as it is by the laws of our mundane everyday reality! But for non-religious, can you not see that these same qualities make such beings irrelevant, and even dangerous, because we can create them as we want them, and use them to justify our own shitty behaviour? This is where the concern about immorality comes from - the abdication of responsibility for one’s own beliefs and actions.

Similarly: we all come from an unbroken line of people who had children.

indeed we come from an unbroken line of animals who had offspring. you can hop back one generation at a time til you get to our early ape ancestors, then those shrew-like things, reptiles, fish, then single cell organisms, in the end you’ll reach the very first cell to ever exist, one single cell from which every living thing evolved.

  • That blog post is *really* light on details. Maybe they assume readers will already know what to expect?

This page appears to be the official list of everything that’s coming with 6.8 next week: https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Plasma_6

Things that stood out to me include removal of X11 as a default option at login, triple buffering enabled for Nvidia, Remote Desktop improvements including 2-way clipboard, improvements to screen recording including recording audio and better screen casting performance.

And finally “Shadows and rounded corners for Steam”. Steam has always been visually quirky to say the least, so I’m intrigued to find out if this will be an improvement or not.

  • a landmark game and that alone is a reason to play it

It’s a really pretty game that gives you a small taste of what it must’ve been like to be a roaming varmint in the early days of the US.

The missions feel very much on rails IMO. Several have just felt to me like a shooting gallery at a funfair.

I admittedly haven’t got very far - maybe 25% - and what put me off a bit was how the game handles a bounty on your head. Bounty hunters seem to spawn randomly near you, and have supernatural abilities to home in on you. I tried sneaking up on them to pick them off one by one, but that just triggers more and more to spawn in. It really seemed like the GTA “Wanted” mechanic with increasing stars, and it kinda killed the immersion for me.
