Yes for white collar. Blue collar remote means you drive 100+ miles to different sites to service industrial shit. I used to be an application engineer/FSR for a water chemistry company, serving power plants. Other regions had steel mills and paper mills, and I’m glad I only ever went to one to pick up equipment and drive back to regional HQ.

  • We’re not talking about women and men. We’re talking about girls and boys. Women can handle insults well because nobody beat the shit out of people for insulting them back when these women were little girls. We accepted that as normal and just expected them to toughen up. I don’t accept that. Insults, especially when directed at children, are a bad thing, and I can’t believe that this is something that needs to be said.

    1. These are children. That shit is unacceptable.
    2. Who said I play sports?
    3. Yeah, I guess I feel like there is a difference between calling a girl a whore and calling a boy a whore, and it’s because the intention is different. Both are wrong because, again, these are children, but yeah I think it’s significantly more socially and psychologically damaging for a young girl to have that word thrown at them. I don’t know for sure, but I’m capable of attempting to check my male privilege to empathize with the experience, and maybe that’s because I have friends who have stories about being treated so creepily by boys and men and even weird ass women bringing up sexual shit with them and about them while they were children. The normalization of that is fucking bonkers, and it’s gross to try to defend it.

In hockey, fighting exists to enact justice when the refs fail to achieve that. Usually it’s for missed calls or intentional harm. It’s my personal opinion that calling an underage girl a whore is verbally abusive which translates to intentional harm enough to justify beating the brakes off that little fucker. The refs should’ve thrown the insulter out for that shit, and if that were my daughter, I’d be after that ref’s job for doing nothing AND punishing the kid who had the courage that the ref didn’t. Yeah, the kid sucks, but his behavior is the product of bad parenting and a lack of education and discipline; that ref should’ve fucking known better.

  • How can I convince a bunch of brainwashed conservative anti-woke pro-trump blue collar rednecks who operate and maintain my combined cycle power plant that unions aren’t just bullshit where you’re not allowed to get anything done and you wind up making less money due to union dues and with no new benefits to show for it? We already make good money and have good benefits and mostly have it pretty easy, but we lack support in terms of training and managers and coverage personnel. I don’t think they’re aware that it could be a lot better. I for one am not a fan of frequently rotating 12 hour shift work in addition to the hour commute each way, and that commute length is par for the course because of the cost of living any closer to the plant. They don’t want a union because they “already know that a union is a scam” and will tune out if I try to explain that some unions are really great, some are meh, but there is a propaganda campaign run by companies that stand to lose a lot from unions winning good contracts for their labor force, and that propaganda exists to convince people like them to cede power to these companies.

I’ve tried to explain lots of progressive and innovative ideas, but they’re stuck in chasing how great shit was in the 80s and 90s. They don’t even want to learn how to use a computer, despite some of these guys literally sitting in front of computers for those entire aforementioned 12 hour shifts. I’ve even automated populating in a solid chunk of our shift reports, and they just whine that I changed it. But it takes two mouse clicks.

    There so goddamn frustrating.

  • investigations are the first part of due process.

That is also the only part that the legislative branch can really do. Based on what is found during investigations, they can recommend charges, but that’s about it. Arrests and charges come from the executive branch. Trial and sentencing come from the judicial branch. This separation of power is a safeguard against king shit, and believe it or not, the king shit we’re seeing in action is still less absolute than it could be if not for some power not yet ceded to the executive.

  • That’s less “immigrants stealing good jobs” though and more “employers violating labor laws and exploiting vulnerable people” like I was saying. Sure, the effect is the same, but instead of rounding up brown people, maybe we could try enforcing the laws and arresting business owners for knowingly breaking the laws. That would also send a message that it’s not worth the risk to try to hire illegally.
