That’s sadly not how power works. You usually hold it until it’s taken. And people are elected. All people. Even those we don’t like. Even insane people. That’s democracy and people are dumb and make mistakes.

People coming up with such rules that sound reasonable forget the reason why no rules like that will ever exist. It’s the slippery slope argument: If you start taking power from anyone because of their age, the question becomes who will decide at which age power is stripped? Who will be stripping and once the rule is established will someone change that rule to their benefit and start taking power from political opponents etc.? We strip power from those sick and unable to hold it… Usually. And on a case by case basis. Because you usually can argue for that person why they are unfit. Just reaching an age does not make you unfit by default. And there are tests to prove you are unfit…,… And then there is the U.S… They would not strip trumps power at any age. Even if there was a law… So yeah.

265·3 days agoThat she is. She killed her at 19 years old, which is pretty young. In germany, it would be legal not to try her as an adult and she would not get capital punishment. Probably fifteen years and change and getting out if she can be rehabilitated after that. This is just cruel.

After they show they are not a piggy bank to crack open and waste like every other money pool greedy politicians get their grubby hands on, they get together and discuss the state of peoples wellfair and decide to pledge 5% voluntarily to a communally run wellfaire fund to help the people struggling the most in a sustainable way.

Scarface? Pretty sure its the last scene before he gets up and riddled by bullets while shooting his Tommy gun.

2·8 days agoSounds reasonable. Assuming matter and antimatter split into equal parts that would have to be the case. I’m not sure if annihilation is a perfect process. Assuming energy density creates separation of energy into matter and antimatter of equal parts and no sudden annihilation happens, that would most certainly result in such a conclusion.

1·9 days agoMaybe, if so I apologize. Lemmy is kind of a toxic place most times. Lots of incel like behavior mixed with leftist ideology. Makes you expect the worst of people here. Business people fulfill an important role in society. They take the risks and resulting losses that everyday people are unable or unwilling to take. They do that based on the potential upside from owning the business they create. Limiting that is a dangerous gamble because it might stifle innovation and there are already declining numbers of people that are ready to take and carry societal risk. I’m all for taxing rich people, but it has to deny people getting too powerful while enabling people to get wealthy enough to take care of anybody they care about for a few generations at least.

21·10 days agoThose are actually pretty good views how society should work. I would even vote for you. But what makes it extreme is when you start suggesting our side has to balance the other extreme by going to the same extreme measures. You go from “killing is bad, they do it so they are bad” to “killing is OK as long as we do it to them”. You lost the part about avoiding killing, entered a slippery slope and tomorrow you are killing every dissident under the sun. That’s how every dictatorship starts and we should educate ourselves about it and limit ourselves to the bare minimum what is necessary to go back to a well regulated society. Locking up overly aggressive billionaires? Sure. Calling for their beheading? Should be a nono.

3·10 days agoI’m not arguing pro death penalty. I’m actually hardline against it. I agree with your statement absolutely. Just stating that the malice part comes from the unnecessary cruelty, intended or not. In theory the protocol was designed to be painless and clinical, but they keep botching it but also keep doing it, which is in fact malicious even when applying Hanlons razor.

I was not aware of that. American prisons are fucked up, so this might still have been a survival situation. But even if not she, like any human, deserves a life in a peaceful person cell with decent food. Prison is about protecting people from her, not about punishment but rehabilitation. And if that is impossible she can’t go free but there is no need for revenge in a just society.
