Not quite 100 years, depending on where you are talking about.
In the USA the 40 hour work week became federal law in 1938. In the Netherlands it wasn’t until the mid-1970s when it became normal.

6·3 days agoI mean, as long as the UK is willing to change to the Euro, sign Shengen, and pay their share without the Thatcher-negotiated “rebate” then I suppose it would be okay to have the UK back. They’d also have to make some changes to ensure that their courts are independent and ensure free speech is allowed in their countries again, probably.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•We work 40+ hours a week and they tell us we can’t afford insulin for our neighbors, but we can always afford another war
2·3 days agoThis is not really true though. If you need cancer treatment and don’t have insurance (or if your insurance won’t cover treatment) you can’t just walk into a hospital and demand to see a specialist, much less get surgery or chemotherapy.

1·5 days agoTechnology investment bubbles have existed since at least the industrial revolution kicked off. Tons of airlines went bankrupt in the early days of air travel, for example. I don’t know anything about it but I assume the same thing happened with trains and a gazillion other technologies that actually are pretty cool.
Marx pointed out that capitalism needs periodic cycles of capital destruction, and here we are…
You don’t find:
No fatties, no trannies, no beardos, no weirdos, no wimps, no radicals.
To be inspiring? 🙈

I have a (former?) friend who says that. He’s fully addicted to algorithm-induced rage. He sends me 3 or 4 Islamophobic and/or Zionist videos from Instagram or X or Facebook every day for some reason.
