I waddled onto the beach and stole found a computer to use.

  • I’d like to share this video of a low cost tumbleweed like device that slowly clears landmines

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=99tsY2nsTkE

‘Mine Kafon’ is a “low-cost wind-powered mine detonator with the appearance of a giant, spiky-armed tumbleweed.”

There’s an estimated 110 million mines still buried around the world. The inventor of ‘Mine Kafon’ – a former Afghan refugee – hopes it will inspire others to join the effort to make the world mine-free by 2027.

    Also these rats in Cambodia

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APOPO

APOPO (Dutch: Anti-Persoonsmijnen Ontmijnende Product Ontwikkeling1 ) is a registered Belgian non-governmental organisation and US non-profit which trains southern giant pouched rats1 and technical survey dogs to detect landmines and tuberculosis.2 They call their trained animals HeroRATs and HeroDOGs.3

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magawa

Magawa (November 2013 – January 2022) was a Southern giant pouched rat (Cricetomys ansorgei) that worked as a HeroRAT sniffing out landmines in Cambodia for the non-governmental organization APOPO (in English, Anti-Personnel Landmines Removal Product Development) which trains rats to detect landmines and tuberculosis. Magawa was the most successful landmine-sniffing rat in the organization’s history, and received the PDSA Gold Medal in 2020.

Finally, this map of which counties signed the Ottawa Treaty vs. those who are still contributing to the problem

  • IMO the title cards would have worked better. This makes it seem like you’re supposed to hear the sound that the vehicles made

Also, was Air Wolf that popular? I would have swapped it with MacGyver, and I’m judging that based on how often other pop culture seems to reference the shows above (ex. Community, etc).

MacGyver is popular enough that some people use it to describe when something is juryrigged/improvised. They might even understand it better than those alternate definitions

  • I find that I can’t catch AI more easily if I’ve seen what it can output.

For example, the older videos used to use generative AI on the images and videos themselves, which made it easier to spot those.

Some newer videos are made with the “agentic” tools that have access to various scripts and animation libraries, which come out looking very polished and visually identical to human produced ones. For those, I find that the AI will put unnecessary “work”, into the irrelevant parts of the visualizations. Some of the libraries and fonts are more popular than others, so you might notice a pattern that way too.

For an example to the second category, check out the recent videos from this channel, which has AI generated “music videos”: https://m.youtube.com/@degenerativepixels
