yea sorry lol! it’s probably way more words than they expected as a response.
Just your normal everyday casual software dev. Nothing to see here.

yea, just because they call you it doesn’t make it true, if it seems someone is talking to you, it isn’t awkward to reply to it but, if someone was talking to you and you ignore them, it just makes an already awkward situation more awkward. It’s much better to then respond to the person, then once realized it wasn’t to you, saying “oh I thought you were talking to me” and lightly laugh to indicate that it was in good faith/you took no offense/that it was a silly mistake.
By not responding at all, if it turned out they /were/ talking to you, you are ignoring them, then when you do find out they were talking to you it would be even more awkward than if you just responded normally, and whats worse from that is, it would be awkwardness that you created by not replying instead of it being awkwardness that the other person created by calling you a thirsty little boy.
In this case it would have worked out, since they wern’t talking to you in the first place, but… if they were talking to you then it would be hella awk ignoring them. And that’s ignoring that they’ll almost certainly try to address you again louder and potentially drawing more attention onto the situation.
I don’t know, maybe I’m just looking way too far into it but, that’s my thought process.
you made me go back and look and confused me some as well. Yea looks like she sat up which made her feet go to the floor which made her legs get hidden by the blanket. I would expect it was to avoid the 90 degree body angle since those angles generally don’t look natural for postures.
I wouldn’t be horrified, I would just be like “Oh I thought you were talking to me, ignore me!” with a small laugh
Some people address people weirdly, imo it would be more awkward if it was turned and they were talking to you and you didn’t respond.

3·4 days agoyea a lot of my searches are technical in nature so I need to reword them in order to have the right critera show. Like looking for a linux virtual display will require 3 different types of searches depending on how its phrased, and will try to show queries about vGPU setups or KVM which are not related to that type of virtual driver (but it technically could be). and sometimes it needs to be narrowed down to specifically your setup as well which adds more searches to it. Specific error codes such as CRTC errors require multiple searches until you can find the right code, gaming wikis and questions can be similar especially if its about more secretive parts of it such as easter eggs or secret endings.

3·4 days agoI have never heard of that before but, they have a really weird requirement for source release.
Source code will be made available to customers who have been paying for at least 12 months.
I don’t think I’ve heard of any software doing that before,
also I really don’t like how the “how do you know we don’t track queries” is basically referring to pay them to see the source code once you hit the 12 month req.
That being said I just tried the trial account on it, it is pretty cool. I like the anonymity feel to it, even if the UI isn’t super friendly.
dude for real. I have a friend that constantly posts twitter memes to a group chat im in. I’m like “legitimately, how do you tolerate that platform still”. They just say they like the memes.
it’s crazy that despite this happening a couple days ago, the official bioware website still says nothing about this closure. Like they didn’t even bother updating the site to say “hey btw we are closed” The optimistic side of me hopes that it’s because they want to try to go inde again and run on their own but… probably not.

7·4 days agois it really that much? I search a lot about my current desktop, and some about my proxmox server. I also like to search about ongoing tech trends like currently ive done a lot of research on the current ps5 jailbreak.
I just went and checked my current month usage at the moment and You are right though with the average. For this month so far I’m sitting at 2209 searches, my daily range is 28-308 queries (if I search “duckduckgo” as the keyword) the majority of them are in the 40-90 query range. A good chunk of them falls into gaming questions and linux questions.
for fun I just checked septembers, page total is 2627 queries and ranges between 40 and 167 pages a day with an average of 87.56 a day
august is 2445 with range of 29-189 and an average 78.87

3·4 days agothe free tier is a static 100 not a monthly 100 isn’t it?
The pricing page says limited to 100 total searches and 100 AI interactions with standard models. I read that as once you hit your total 100 you need to get a sub.
The page isn’t super clear but older update logs state they moved from a “monthly 50” to a “one time 100”

12·4 days agoSame tbf. 5$ for 300 searches is so limited. I just checked my DDG history for the month and I average between 2500 and 3500 searches a month. I don’t even use it professionally, its just general consumer use.
Honestly I likely would pay for it if it was 5$ for 3k-4k searches. I would just swap to another engine for the remainder but, 1$/1k searches up to 10$ which moves to unlimited would be more than fine, even if they decided to remove the bloat like lens, and translation from the package. but they are likely hoping more people are not like me and will just pay the 10$ a month to have unlimited rather than just not use the service at all.
Especially considering how many other services that I get way more value of are not much more than the unlimited plan… I can have internet browsing for 10$ which i already have for free, or I can pay a couple $'s more and get a streaming service or a news site which contains content that I don’t already have access to.
I like the mentality but, it’s just not worth it for me for a non-essential service that adds nothing of value to me outside one less site harvesting my data.
I agree its not pedantic, I’m also pretty sure that Apple owns the trademark for Earpods which means other companies can’t legally use the term anyway, so why are we calling it?

4·6 days agothat project is off to a bad start in my opinion. This is their second attempt at this and they are still only asking 10k for a platform that’s going to compete with YouTube? Sure they funded 100k but… where’s the cash flow. Investors are not going to jump at a poisoner. Drive space cost money, and a poisoning system is also going to require gpu rendering ontop of whatever rendering is required for consumption.
Considering their primary revenue sources is intended to be user contribution via subscribers or their share of the content manager system… I really don’t see how they expect to maintain sustainable
I wish them the best of luck though.

21·6 days agothey did that with the previous Xbox, called it the all access pass. It was the unit combined with gamepass ult which you had for the duration of the two or three-year payment plan I understand their thought process on it because it does do a good job at forcing the consumer to have a subscription they normally wouldn’t have, but in reality, the only thing it did was make it so I didn’t purchase any actual games for the unit, so when their overpriced subscription finally ran out, I had no reason to continue using the console, and it’s basically collected dust since because all of the games I would have purchased, I had already played via Game Pass Ultimate, and I had no hard copy games to play.

31·8 days agoWell, they had my attention because I was looking for new earphones, but they are another stupid tailed design one so guess this is a pass.
Why does it seem like nobody can make minimalistic earphones anymore. They all gotta be huge goady “LOOK AT ME WORLD I HAVE EARPHONES IN” style ones. If I wanted the entire world to know that I was wearing something I would wear headphones. The entire point of earphones is to keep them minimalistic in design, but we’ve lost that along the way.

19·9 days agoYou had me in the first half, but very quickly I realized we went opposite directions with that idea.
Like, I would absolutely love a program that automatically followed affiliate links for whitelisted channels that I watch. Obviously I wouldn’t want it to buy things, but it would allow me to show a little bit more support.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How can self-hosted software make money without hurting the ecosystem?English
4·16 days agoYou have correctly identified the core issue with open source.
Personally speaking, as inefficient as it is, I think that donations is the best way to support a self hosted open source project.
Followed by paying for licensing to be able to get support for the product.
If your project is open source any other restriction out there, you can’t really do because they can just fork and patch the software to remove the restriction.
Due to that restriction(or lack of), I’ve always personally seen most open-source projects to be more of a hobbyist or personal project then a project that someone wants to do to make money.

4·18 days agoPorkbun 10$ for a year iirc for my .com
I moved there from Namecheap who wanted almost $17 for my domain, and didn’t provide API services
Just be aware that porkbun is one of the ones that has started identity verification. It started with some smaller regions, but they have moved to doing it on most of their regions from what I saw.

for me it was ice in the turbo. Chevy in their infinite wisdom for the 2015-20 malibus decided to have a sensor in them, and if ice gets in it and it blocks the air flow, it will trip the engine and throw it into a 20% power style mode that won’t clear until you plug a OBD tool into it and clear the errors.
It’s meant as a safety system for the engine and usually resolves itself once you let the ice melt but, it won’t go back to full power or make the light go away until the error is cleared.
When it happens I just flick the hazerds on and run it at whatever speed it lets me actually run it at which is around 20-25 mph
