I prefer left burner as a right handed person. Not too sure why. Maybe because I lift pans with my left hand typically, so the handle is over the counter instead of the rest of the stove.

Technology@lemmy.world•Not cool: who hacked France’s supermarket fridges?English
32·2 days agoIn a commercial setting it makes sense for monitoring temperatures and maybe power usage, identifying units that may be faulty, etc.
Not at all useful for a single unit in a household though.

122·3 days agoGo burn the mansions of the billionaires then, sink their yachts. Why burn down your own history? It’s like shooting yourself in the foot because you are mad. How the hell does that change anything?
Because people want to get places faster, and everyone knows law enforcement can’t reliably say if you were going 30mph or 40mph without a radar. So everyone collectively agrees that up to 10mph over the limit is fine since you probably won’t get pulled over unless you go more than that.
If you raise the limit from 30 to 40, people will just end up driving 50.

21·3 days agoWe probably should have a support system in place before we replace everyone with robots first. But that will never happen.
You don’t have to like or respect the lackey you hire to get a job done.

Technology@lemmy.world•MapQuest will now show you where Flock cameras are in your neighborhoodEnglish
61·4 days agoI’ve heard that said a few times but I have used both and MapQuest is infinitely more accurate and usable. I tried osm first and half the addresses I typed in couldn’t be found unless it were a major city. MapQuest I have not had that problem so they either use a different data source or they amalgamate multiple sources for more functionality.

Or simply make all life half the size.
Could you imagine Earth if everything alive were like, 10% of its size? There would be so much space, so much room for resources to flourish.
So much distance between one country on one side of the planet and a country on the other side that wars between the two would be completely unfeasible.

World News@lemmy.world•BBC asks judge to force Trump to sit for deposition in his own lawsuit against the channelEnglish
3018·5 days agoI love the fact that his lawsuit is also highlighting the fact of how unfair it is for individuals to have to fight corporations which Republicans don’t give a shit about.
For Trump to sit during the deposition, but who from BBC has to attend? Hired lawyers.
Same thing for if Walmart were sued or Amazon. Would the CEO need to sit during the court proceedings as well? Nah, they are shielded. Just the person using a giant corporation.

Science@lemmy.ml•[CW: Animal Cruelty] 370 billion crickets are farmed for food every year. Scientists have discovered they may feel pain
12·11 days agoEh depends what you define as pain. It could be completely different from what we feel as humans. Like, does a tree feel the same as we would feel if a chainsaw cut off our leg? Probably not, but it probably feels something. Does a bacterium feel pain as it explodes when coming into contact with certain chemicals like we would with a grenade going off in our torso? Probably not.
So you are mad the provincial NDP didn’t force through a loophole like Saskatchewan did? Which probably comes with a lot of liability and extra expenditures for new regulatory processes, forms, paperwork, redtape, etc.
I mean, this is a provincial election. I don’t think provinces really have that much control over gun policy? That’s more federal.

It’s hilarious that they think the US would even let them join. Maybe if they are lucky they would be declared a us territory or something similar to Puerto Rico.
They wouldn’t have a say in government. Why would America bring them into the fold. Oil? America would be better off keeping them landlocked and desperate with their only options to sell oil to America or back to Canada for pennies on the dollar. Or wait for the oil industry to collapse because nothing can be sold and then when Alberta is desperate, come in and sweep up everything for American companies to buyout cheap and then keep Albertans as wage slaves.
