  • I only planted about 6 seeds and got nearly 100 melons, this was an exceptional year for them. Probably 25% loss because it flooded eventually and of course a few tried climbing and they are too heavy for that. Usually I get maybe 25-30 over the whole season.

They are so sweet that even after it started raining daily they were still great. Such a sturdy variety.

One plant per sq foot I can’t imagine. Compact for a watermelon but they still sprawl, and pollination gets better and better through the season, bees were still trying at the end.

  • Squash bugs, yeah. I haven’t lost anything to fungus but do the mid-season spray when I do the annual spray of my citrus trees. Main growing season is not summer! More things grow in winter here. So depending on how hot they need to be, might be able to get them set before the rains. We have days over 70 most all year but lows in Jan/Feb sometimes near freezing, sometimes not - last year a freak double tap freeze killed my spring garden but that is unusual. Left me wishing I had planted some collards.

Worst case I guess it will be next year’s trap crop - this year I tried the Natsu Cocoa and oof the bugs loved those, did not get even one. I do love the mini love ones though, so delicious and very enthusiastic about setting fruit.

  • Wow! Mr. or Ms. Mini Love themsef!

Yes on resistance to fungus - I spray it once, mid-season, with dilute elemental copper and that’s all. And yep, almost a hundred fruit in 400 sq feet of garden, I’ve grown it before but this year just let it take over, it was too dry for okra, which is the usual winner in summer here.

  • I make sourdough rye (mixed wheat flour and rye flour) with my regular starter all the time! I think Whole foods usually has a sourdough rye - some years back I bought some and that was why I started making sourdough bread. It’s so delicious. Any version from rustic and crusty more like what you think of as sourdough to very dense dark and bouncy, sourdough rye is great.

Yeah I use it to prevent, but for one of my offspring (and only one of them) it’s a trigger.

But to be fair, the list of potential food triggers the doctor gave me once made me cry, it was literally every food. And also fasting. I’m sure they are trying to help but it always feels like being blamed - you are causing the headaches, just stop doing whatever is causing them!"

Dude. My main migraine triggers were my period, and sleep, relaxing after stress. Not things I could avoid, no matter how much you try to blame it on lifestyle. Menopause plus MHT took care of the main trigger, now it’s just that sleep after stress one, much less frequent now, I can often dodge them with some coffee before bed, I guess that keeps everything slightly tense until I wake up, and they don’t usually start in the day. Massage only scheduled for mornings, never late in the day. Any cocktail or wine is with supper or earlier never ever ever before bed. Those things do help but don’t prevent all of them.

  • Not every style is possible with every hair type. One of my kids wanted a pixie and I told her “you can’t go that short, your hair is coarse and thick like mine, it will just look bulky, it won’t do what you are picturing.”

She got the cut anyway and guess what? It was just bulky.

So it may be the same haircut with a different result. A bob on me is flat on top and wide like Rosanna Danna, my hair needs layers to be a nice shape. But my kids with thinner/finer hair can pixie or bob theirs with great results.

I will never be able to have bangs, hair is too curly for real bangs, not curly enough for curly bangs.

In short - there is no style possible for every head of hair, and no head of hair that can rock every possible style.
