Have you ever considered that the Prime Directive is not only not ethical, but also illogical, and perhaps morally indefensible?

Canada@lemmy.ca•Stelco owner says he could sell plant next year after becoming 'persona non grata in Canada'English
40·8 days agoNot sure why this quote didn’t make the headline…
“I bought Stelco because I could not afford anymore having Stelco flooding the market here in the United States to the detriment of my own company,” he said.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Meet Canada's 5 Eurovision finalistsEnglish
2·9 days agoHas there been much chatter about groups/artists who are confirmed to have applied?
I would have liked to have seen LU KALA in the mix - she has good Eurovision energy.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Meet Canada's 5 Eurovision finalistsEnglish
2·9 days agoHaving watched the music videos in the article…they’re all good artists, but I’m not sure I’m seeing any Eurovision winners. There needs to be some arena-filling bombast. If anyone’s seen these artists live, maybe you’ll have some insights.
Based solely on these videos…Rêve could be a good choice. Josiane’s mix of French and English could be a fun way to show off the country, but again…Eurovision is about spectacle much of the time.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney, Ford announce nearly $9B partnership to support steel, auto, critical mineral sectorsEnglish
15·15 days agoAlso in the joint package, Ottawa is easing greenhouse gas regulations as U.S. tariffs pressure Canada’s automotive sector.
Canada’s emissions standards are now set to flatline until 2030 — maintaining 2026 levels for new light-duty vehicles through the 2029 model year. Annual increases are set to resume in the 2030 model year.
Ottawa initially proposed increasing emissions standards from 2026 through 2035 to reach its goal of 75 per cent EV sales by 2035.
This change comes after the Trump administration made similar changes on Monday.

11·15 days agoI think one can reasonably assume that he consented to being identified, since the CBC regularly protects anonymity.
Why he consented, considering his concerns, is a valid question.

Canada@lemmy.ca•The other questions from the Alberta referendumEnglish
31·16 days agoI agree - the new government in Quebec has an obvious stake in reopening the Constitution, and Ford’s the kind of guy who would jump on it. They meet the 50% of the population stipulation all by themselves, and between them and Alberta, they have 3 out of the 7 provinces required. It’s not implausible that they could find four more.
BUT, the current version of Ford might not be too excited to be seen climbing into bed with separatists.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Alberta votes to stay in Canada, CBC News projectsEnglish
10·16 days agoSure, they’re going to press on with a bunch of initiatives that are plainly unconstitutional, get smacked down by the courts after a lengthy battle, use it to fuel anti-federal sentiment, and try again later.
The wheel turns.

Canada@lemmy.ca•He followed a debunked conspiracy theory to claim a tax refund. So why did the CRA agree to a $40M payout?English
10·20 days agoI don’t think the CBC can say “fraudulently” because fraud is a crime and he hasn’t been charged, let alone convicted.
“Allegedly” doesn’t work, because the facts aren’t in dispute.
But I agree, “erroneously” also seems wrong. They probably should have just left the adverb out of it.

How is this in any way equivalent?
