I don’t know. Quite the opposite experience here. I’ve always only heard stupid ignorant shit about unions from my colleagues. Things only strated shifting over the last coupleof years.

I’d wear that label as a badge of honor. 😆

Sunshine def not a bot. Not sure if she uses some aid for posting news or not.

Awesome.
Just in time for the recent influx of poisonous food from the US. Awesome.

FOSS communities probably won’t form around most of these projects, as you said. Assuming the software can be managed by a few people with LLMs, likely local in the very near future, it’s quite possible that plenty end users who didn’t use FOSS before would jump on these instead of paying money to MS or Adobe. That in itself is a huge win for the majority. Depriving MS from revenue that is. Then for community FOSS, this has potentially significant positive implications about our biggest challenge - dealing with proprietary formats and proprietary blobs. This could mean perfect .doc/.docx compatibility in LibreOffice. It could mean a perfectly working nouveau driver for NVIDIA GPUs. How about fixing the tons of bugs we workaround in motherboard firmware. Or fixing that corner case in Wine so it can run your fav obscure game. Or reverse-engineering communication protocol of cloud-connected IoT to integrate it in Home Assistant. Etc. Etc.
In short: FOSS is a social activity. Assuming this method can produce very good source from binaries, that itself won’t create FOSS communities, but FOSS communities can use it to significantly improve the FOSS they care about.
Full compatibility with Windows apps on Wine when?

Some day that would be possible but today is not that day. 😄

2x R9700, Ryzen 7700, 64GB RAM. The absolute best I’ve seen from llama.cpp was 60tps but the typical was 45-55tps. Radiance gave me 150tps on the first try. It can do parallel output while keeping 80-120tps with 2-4 streams. It can do more in parallel but I heven’t tested what the numbers look like. As far as I understand these numbers are possible on a single R9700 with the MXFP4 model. Haven’t tried it.

They’ll be shipping them to Israel for the next round of bombardment of Iran.

Using LLMs to backport approved paches in upstream software into older versions should be significantly easier and more accurate than producing the original patch and reviewing it. In the backport scenario the knowledge that the patch is “good” is already settled. The source around it is in place so the LLM has very tightly bounded context to work with, left with very little freedom to make mistakes. I think LLMs will make LTS releases significantly easier to maintain.
Debian btw.

Probably still a pretty low number but yeah. The risk of being thrown in a black hole is markedly higher than it used to be for us. Especially if the facial recognition AI makes a mistake.

A version of this does exist in left-wing infighting but this narrative specifically has been and is constantly repeated by the American right, probably some of the centre too:
Every Marxist state (USSR, China, Cambodia, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam) produced authoritarian regimes with mass deaths, poverty, or corruption.
It’s currently being deployed to attack the insurgent left that’s contesting some elections this year, along with the resurgent interest and popularity in socialism over the last couple of years.
Everyone on the left has grievances with these past and present projects. Including MLs.

I saw a mention that they’re getting some of that news subsidy introduced some years ago. Haven’t verified. Not that cutting them would ruin them, given who owns them… It adds insult to injury though.
If you do it at 3AM anyway… may as well eliminate the need to even think about mismatches. 😁 I think mine also used to do it at 3AM before I switched to ZFS snapshots + send/recv.

True. It’s definitely not a perfect, problem-solved thing. Merely an (significant?) improvement from the corporate status quo.

This isn’t said and understood enough. Instances on the Fediverse aren’t free-for-all, apolitical places without ideology. Some try to be (with varying success) but being active in the Fediverse and especially running an instance is in itself a fairly ideological and political act. So chances are instances reflect their owners’ ideology. And that is great because one has places to be if an instance doesn’t suit them, unlike corpo platdorms where one ideology drives most of them.

Every Marxist state (USSR, China, Cambodia, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam) produced authoritarian regimes with mass deaths, poverty, or corruption. None achieved Marx’s stated goal of classless, stateless society. China and Vietnam abandoned core Marx principles for market mechanisms to survive economically. I do not support capitalism or imperialism of USA, Israel and Europe, neither approach is good for humanity! No one them think of labor class
by 🐭 Labor Class@lemmy.world reason: Imperialist propaganda
Well this is pretty standard right wing, often US, propaganda so the reason isn’t far off. 😄 Sure they are pretty trigger happy but parroting right wing propaganda (whether or not you consider it such, and whether or not you consider yourself a capitalist) in an self-avowed leftist space won’t get you hugs and kisses. Especially in this day and age when everyone is looking at whay the US is doing and catching up on world history as a result. If it were me I wouldn’t delete and ban, instead I’d post references to read. But it is what it is. 🤷
This is a chart of people’s economic expectations for the future. They’re largely pesimistic. I’ve been at the upper half of the K economy and I found the cost of housing, child care and otherwise cost of living high enough to debate whether to have 1 child. Now I’m contemplating how long till I get flipped to the lower half of the K by AI. Back in 2011 I had no doubts I’d be able to have several kids without much trouble.
