  • ffs, every other manufacturer has a fold phone, and none of them experience this high a failure rate, this quickly too.

We don’t know what the failure rate is, as of yesterday there were “at least 10 different confirmed cases”. And I remember Samsung also had similar issues on their first fold phone for example.

Either way fold phones are stupid as far as I’m concerned and never should’ve been invented. Just another way to part idiots and their money.

  • Bro IDGAF abou Cubans today.

    Well that’s a bit racist, isn’t it

Bro Cuba is no longer a socialist state. Have you seen the rrforms? Have you seen the oil embargos effects on Cuba since 2 years ago up until today? Clearly you havent so why am I even asking?

Oh, the oil embargos of the last 2 years are the reason Cubans have been fleeing Cuba for decades, got it. Not fleeing the dictatorship (instead of revolting against it).

Instead of talking about Koreans from 1910-53 …you talk about SOUTH KOREA TODAY …when Im talking ALL of the Korean Penninsula from decades ago.

Did they revolt against the Japanese, or did Japan lose the war? I was under the impression they only managed to kick the oppressors out because the oppressors got two nukes dropped on them. By the Americans ironically enough.

  • If you don’t have car manufacturers of your own, you’re probably best off buying Chinese at this point. They will spy on you, but so does everyone else and with Chinese cars you get the benefits of slave labour and near-free lithium batteries, environment be damned. We can never match that pricing in European cars.

The other great option is to tariff cars not built in Canada and watch car manufacturers build plants in your country, that’s pretty much what the US and EU both do to protect the auto industry and it’s part of the reason all of the big German and Japanese manufacturers have manufacturing plants in the US for example. Canada’s a smaller population to cater to, but big enough for some manufacturers with high sales volumes to build their own manufacturing plants. I bet Toyota would easily do it.

Of course at present it seems more likely that you will remove the tariffs on European cars in exchange for us removing tariffs on some important Canadian exports. Still better than buying gigantic pick-up trucks, but our manufacturers are lagging behind with EVs since ICE cars are still cheaper to build than EVs outside of China.

  • I don’t have a spare tire in the car, so a blown one would definitely mean a missed flight :P

That’s why I said an hour or two to spare! You can get the car towed to a workshop and grab a taxi yourself in the meantime. Obviously something like 5 hours to spare would be way too much, unless you’re driving 6-7 hours to the airport to begin with. For me it would usually be more like an hour and a half so I’d start driving ~3-4 hours before the flight.

Personally I don’t want to pay extra for a flexible ticket or whatever and I’m NOT skipping a flight, so I’ll do everything reasonably in my power to make the flight. It’s not like I’m going to be doing much else earlier in the day anyway, if I’m flying somewhere, it’s an occasion and I’m not going to work in the morning lol

And in the hypothetical scenario of the comic they explicitly state there isn’t a safe period to pass.

But there must be one eventually. It is very rare not to get an opportunity to pass sooner or later. If there truly is not, the person driving the overheating car would generally pull over to let people pass.

Though I suppose the hypothetical scenario makes zero sense anyway, because 15 in a 45 is actually more likely to make your car overheat if it’s prone to do so in the first place. The cooling system works better when the radiator is getting air on it.

  • I have no doubt that people would like the government in my country a lot more if it wasn’t for the conservative opposition working to drive hate against anything progressive that the government is actually achieving from time to time. Being gay was never illegal, but the law was antiquated and said that marriage is between a man and a woman. Literally just changing that so that two people of the same gender getting married would be possible, was an absolute media shitstorm. I wonder how it would go in China if they tried legalizing gay marriage now - there’s simply no opposition party to campaign off it.

That’s why I say that it’s easier to have better satisfaction ratings when people have 0 choice. There’s just no reason to sow division in the first place.

  • I currently own a VW and an Audi, in both of those you can get a CEL that does absolutely jack shit and continues to do absolutely jack shit, OR you can get the actual limp mode, which nearly always clears when the condition triggering it is no longer detected after an engine restart. I think if it’s something that can’t be cleared just by restarting the engine, you also get blinking glow plug or EPC (if petrol) light and that’s pretty rare.

BMW IIRC was similar, Mercedes never gave me limp mode, my older Merc had basically a tractor engine, 700k km to the best of my knowledge and no engine or transmission issues. Sounded like a tractor too

  • There absolutely are real phenomenon in economics. There are none in astrology that have been proven.

But from the perspective of earth, there are times when Mercury appears to reverse its course. The other planets do it too

But that’s not astrology. Astrology is the art of giving it mysterious meanings. Mercury being in retrograde is an astronomical phenomenon.

The problem with economics is that it’s essentially sociology and you obviously can’t make absolute laws about things that involve people. But I’ll give you two simple examples that absolutely have been proven time and time again:

    1. Induced demand - if you make something more available (cheaper), that in of itself is usually enough to make demand for it higher.

    2. Inelastic demand - if something is an absolute necessity then it becoming more expensive doesn’t reduce demand to 0 (healthcare, fuel).

#2, incidentally, is one reason why markets will never be truly efficient and need to be regulated. The equilibrium of supply and demand can’t be what determines the price of healthcare, transportation, etc.

Economics blows up when you try to make things absolute rules, or when you try to rationalize markets that have people with tons of money FOMOing bullshit based on marketing. Two problems come to mind:

    1. The P/E ratio of 10 is stated as a rule in investing, but there’s no reason that’s the exact right amount, it’s really just something that on average, people buying stocks find a sensible return rate because similar rates could be achieved elsewhere too.

    2. Conversely to the last point, people marketing IPOs for companies making zero profit will convince you that really horrible P/E is fine because those companies will take over the entire global market for whatever. See, that’d be true IFF there’s a market AND they remain the biggest player. Just because a P/E ratio of 10 being optimal isn’t an absolute law of the universe doesn’t mean a P/E ratio of 1000 is any good.

  • Outright war has been pretty rare for most western countries at least. Like, when was the last time you had to dodge bombs? I can tell you that my country for example hasn’t been invaded in my lifetime (mostly because we joined NATO in the early 00s). Suddenly being under attack would be pretty extreme circumstances around these parts.

Also, Palestine hasn’t held elections in 2 decades and are only now finally planning a new general election in 2027. It is quite curious I’ve never heard someone on .ml criticize them for it whereas Ukraine often catches shit for it. Which, sure, Palestine has it much worse, but then 2 decades vs 2.5 years (so far) is also a big difference.

  • So the latter two are fairly easily explainable by racism and homophobia and are actually easier to avoid if you don’t have a democracy. China’s done well, they not had a real refugee crisis lately and don’t have too many black people to hate (they DO still be hella racist over there, somehow Africans were even at fault for COVID according to some Chinese officials).

There was a huge social media outcry about refugees in much of Europe about a decade ago that the conservatives kept milking for a long, long time. Then they’ll claim black men are rapists and take the one example that keeps doing it again every time he gets out of jail as if that’s representative of every African. Then the outcry about LGBT people trying to groom your kids and whtaever. This is all for conservatives to get votes. They get almost half a country thinking that the damn librul communist (yes, they consider those to be the same thing, I’m not even going to get into that) government is out to erase straight white people… In a country with 10 black people and 5 muslims (okay, I’m exaggerating, but there REALLY aren’t a lot of them here, whereas the conservatives will tell you that they’re completely taking over and they’re all getting billions from the government in aid and whatnot)

If the people don’t actually have a choice (like in China, where there’s literally only one party allowed), there’s no need for manufactured outrage about foreigners. Which is great because then there’s less hate, but it also means you literally don’t get to choose the political ideals of the people who govern you. If you have a bad faith opposition party to worry about, they will make up shit to get into power.

TL;DR: Completely subdue your people politically so there’s no competition, then there’s no manufactured outrage, then people won’t think literally all their tax money is going to a single refugee center that in reality holds 10 families.

  • Probably not any time soon? China’s buying 5090s in bulk to literally remove the chips and transplant them onto server form factor boards for AI.

The stocks crashed because there’s so much competition now and nobody can expect to take the whole market. Deepseek, Qwen, GLM, Kimi are ALL way cheaper than the US counterparts and quite comparable. It’s not exciting anymore. When Deepseek R1 came out, everyone thought that Deepseek was going to completely take everything over. Now pretty much everyone is getting close to Claude in performance.

  • if ice gets in it and it blocks the air flow, it will trip the engine and throw it into a 20% power style mode

See, that’s actually reasonable, put the car in limp mode when it’s not getting the air it should be getting

that won’t clear until you plug a OBD tool into it and clear the errors.

    That part is not reasonable.

My experience has been mostly German cars and those usually clear the limp mode when the code is no longer active (i.e it shows up as “intermittent” because it hasn’t happened in the current drive cycle).

Who said anything about more than doubling all your travel times? There will pretty much always be a safe opportunity to pass eventually. Unless you’re going somewhere at rush hour, in which case you’re an idiot if you don’t plan for it.

I don’t go to the airport a day early because there might be an accident on the motorway.

Just go an hour or 2 early in case you blow a tire or something else happens. Hell, there could be a long-ass queue at airport security too. Or is a missed flight really better than an hour or 2 of your time?
