Linux@lemmy.ml•Killed by Ubuntu, Linux Mint is Bringing This Classic Feature Back
9·4 days agoMy main issue with hibernation in Linux is that it by default uses the same swap as ram overflow, so it fails if ram+swap is close to full - such as having a huge project of some kind in progress which would be a pain to reopen, one of the situations where hibernation would be very helpful.
This is fixable, I did it on my own laptop, and really wish I wrote everything down because it was a complex and unintuitive process, both getting it to save to a separate swap file from the swap partition (switched on/off in the systemd hibernation scripts), and getting it to boot from said file.
I really wish this was a supported scenario that was easy to set up. It drives me nuts for a feature where failure can mean data loss to have a failure mode easily reached by regular usage.
By contrast, Windows has always had separate swap and hibernation files, and generally works if drivers don’t mess it up (which they can on Linux too, Nvidia.)
I believe that’s true of most people since the invention of recorded music.

4·9 days agoMy mother worked at a company that also employed the mother of Brendan Fraser, who was in The Air I Breathe (2007) with Keven Bacon.
So my Bacon Number is 4 despite not being an actor.

Samuel L. Jackson ::: number is actually 1 higher.
The company in question was a cemetery. My mom did telemarketing, they called it the “pre-need” dept.
Makes sense. It’s Boost for Lemmy.
Here’s what I see from your link:

But I think I figured it out, you left a period at the end of the sentence, and it got included in the link.

One of the contracts I worked wouldn’t pay out holidays if I missed more than a day in the prior 2 months or some such. So in protest I vowed to come in to work no matter how sick I was. Even brought a change of clothes in case I’d need it.
Then of course I didn’t get sick again until after the contract ended.
