Water vapour with additives can definitely cause you to cough if you inhale it into your throat and lungs. I understand the effect to the lungs is absolutely nowhere near cigarette smoking, but it is still absolutely something that can and does cause people to cough. I’ve witnessed this effect on others trying it their first time too. No, they were not all the same vape.

What do you mean what was in my vape? Have you never seen someone try a vape or cig or something for the first time? Inhaling anything into your lungs is a fucking godawful experience the first time or several times you do it.

Like I said, I’m sure it’s both a technique issue combined with tolerance. But the experience is way too unpleasant for me to want to experiment with.

No, but I could see how that can happen with vaping. I tried a vape like 1-2 times and both times I hated it. I was coughing like crazy and didn’t understand how you were supposed to be able to do that and not feel like your throat and lungs are on fire. Even if it was a technique issue, it seemed like a very unhealthy way to consume such a drug. So I only was interested in trying edibles from there.

Both the anoxic effect from inhaling a substance that isn’t oxygen and the more rapid onset of how you feel the effects of vaping can cause lightheadedness and for some people to pass out iirc.

You might like to try either an edible or one of those canned weed drinks. But the unfortunate downside with them is that the effect takes a LONG time to kick in, and it’s easy to accidentally dose too high before that. So it’s better to start slow (look at the recommended dose and HALF that), and then add more.

The annoying thing is it’s really hard to precisely cut the gummy so I’m in a sweet spot. The phenomenon seems to happen I think somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3, but it can vary. It’s such a narrow window between minimal effect and too much for me. I’m also wondering if maybe the gummies have “hot spots” where some areas are more or less concentrated, making it more difficult for me to accurately dose.

Interesting that it happens more often with delta 9 than delta 8 with you. I’m wondering if that might make a difference. I went with delta 9 as it’s supposed to be closer to actual weed.

I’m not well versed in drugs. I have these “delta 9” gummies that I’ve taken on rare occasion. If I accidentally have just a hair too much (which is really not a lot…maybe like 2/3 of a gummy), my perception gets really fucked. It’s like somehow my perception becomes a sequence of still images/photographs rather than a world in motion. It is very disorienting and uncomfortable and I don’t like when that happens. It almost feels like I am being teleported from place to place with no memory of how I got there. Then the image of where I currently am gets stuck for a while until the next “photograph” happens.

It’s not just a one off either. Rather, it always happens if I take around the suggested dose or a bit more. I don’t understand why but I wish I could experience the gummy without that effect.

It made me not really get into using them much so I guess that’s a good thing.

Edit: I seem to have found the name of the phenomenon on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akinetopsia

  • I always thought it seemed kind of dumb to own a manual nowadays considering how prevalent automatics are and how simple they are to drive. I had never ridden a manual but it seemed like too much work.

Well I got a motorcycle earlier this year (most are manual), and now I definitely understand the appeal of a manual vehicle. I actually get annoyed at my automatic car due to the lack of throttle response compared to my bike. It’s a lot more fun on the bike. And I have a slow as fuck bike.

But I still don’t know if I would replace my car with a manual car because it can also be nice to just chill while driving.

  • I get that it’s embarrassing, but it shows that you and others care. I had someone almost call an ambulance on me before for similar reasons. Thankfully it did not progress that far and I was embarrassed about it, but I was very thankful that they cared enough to (nearly) do so.

It’s part of the job for EMTs to respond to mental health situations, even if they aren’t necessarily immediately life threatening. You probably gave them a much nicer call than the ones where they are vomited on by someone who drank too much lol!!

Our brains love to lie to us when we are down and tell us that we are a burden to others. I thought that way the entire time. But we aren’t. We are all just confused electrified flesh trying to make our way in the world. We are all valid.

I am hoping the best for you, friend.

  • Weird as fuck how heavily this gets downvoted.

Yes, it does matter in a medical context. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fucking ridiculous and not understanding the nature of reality.

I agree that it doesn’t matter in too many other places. But pretending it doesn’t matter in a medical context is quite frankly ridiculous.

It’s important for people with breast tissue to get screened for breast cancer.

It’s important for people with prostates to get screened for prostate cancer.

People who bleed each month often have lower hemoglobin levels that are not as immediately alarming as in people who don’t bleed every month.

It’s not rocket science. Enjoy not being treated for potentially deadly issues because you think biological sex is irrelevant to medical issues.

Look…express yourself however best suits you. I absolutely advocate people expressing themselves in whatever manner of gender that is truly them. But biology is incredibly important in a medical context.
