Europe@feddit.org•English children’s homes are in crisis. Does Denmark hold the answers?English
1·4 days agoThat’s not what I told you to look up. Here- I’ll give you a starter: The problem with the children’s homes is the same problem with the the healthcare and the schooling and the jobcenter.
Remember 2 years ago when DR ran a whole campaign against the jobcenter? Do you know what has changed? Fucking nothing. It’s worse than it ever was. You only hear about it when the media reports on it, and our media only reports on shit that affects the middle class. The middle class is entirely unrelated to children’s homes, so you don’t know how bad it is. Go speak to the people involved, dawg.

21·4 days agoThe rent-seeking behavior you claim I never even heard about here in Denmark, and I have no idea what you mean by that.
I know.
I speak from a position of being in the lower end of the lower class when I’m telling you this shit has collapsed. Believe it or don’t, I don’t care. I fight with your attitude every day of my life and I’m beyond trying to explain it. Look it up, or keep thinking that Denmark is somehow special in the global economy. The collapse will find you eventually.

Europe@feddit.org•English children’s homes are in crisis. Does Denmark hold the answers?English
13·4 days agoIt’s broadly just a government service, not a rent contract market.
Which means it’s chronically underfunded and staffed by people who don’t care about the children. People don’t talk about this, and I especially don’t trust the BBC to talk about it, but danish welfare is totally and utterly collapsed. Lower class people only get healthcare on paper because GPs won’t diagnose or refer people with anything other than a common flu, and the middle class just pay for private doctors to give them whatever they want.

83·4 days agoEngland can learn nothing of Denmark’s social services. Both countries engage in escalating rent-seeking behavior, and England is far ahead in that race.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•I can't believe I'm praising them but credit where it's due I guess.
24·5 days agoThis is not a China-praise thread, but an America-hate thread. It is being done by pointing out that an objectively shitty empire is somehow managing to do the obviously correct thing where the entire western world seems to have chosen social suicide.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How much pain should I expect upgrading my server from Debian 12 to 13?English
1·6 days agoMy desktop is on its third major version upgrade. I don’t pay attention to breaking changes, and somehow I’ve still been made aware of the few packages that require something. Those packages usually include some kind of easy step by step or a script to migrate.
It’s really quite a breeze to upgrade Debian.

Well OK fascism is a strong word,
No it isn’t. Why say this? What’s the purpose of cleaning your hands of this objectively true statement? I take issue with your motivations.
Unrelated but holy fuck I need quirky low-impact website designers to realize that text-align:center does NOT in fact burn the rainforest or cause congestion on the internet highways or whatever. text-align:center IS vegan.

Lady I got a decade of experience trying to get off Discord. I know.
Matrix isn’t that hard if you can read, though, and it has actual users, and you get to control your account. It has other problems that make it non-viable.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•[AIP] Haven discord alternative discussion on P2P / Mediasoup / LiveKitEnglish
221·12 days agoI could rant about the slop but it’s pointless because the developers of this didn’t even understand why Discord alternatives never work out.
- Bridging Discord without bots on Discord’s side is against Discord ToS, so don’t rely on that.
- P2P is a great idea except it scares the hoes so you’ve cut 80% of your market off right there.
- No federation so realistically everyone is gonna have to create and manage like 10 separate accounts for each of their friend groups, which even the most hardcore anti-Discord folks aren’t going to bother with.
Also this is a promo post, however sneaky you try to make it. Tag appropriately.

1·13 days agoOn Lemmy, it embeds JXL. The original is a JXL. I can see on my website’s logs that some links get ?format=webp appended to the URL but the useragent does not reveal which instance or clients are doing that.

drkt@scribe.disroot.orgOPtoPhotography@lemmy.world•How does the fediverse handle JPEG XL?
2·14 days agoYeah; seems to just work! Very nice. I was afraid it wouldn’t embed for not being on some kinda file-type whitelist, but evidently not.
I want to upgrade to it from Proxmox when I eventually get a new processor. It seems perfect for my use case; proxmox is far too complex for what little I do with it.
