  • Sure, but I don’t want “GitHub, but in the EU”, as the post suggests.

Nothing here mentions federated forges. I agreee it’d be nice for those that don’t want to selfhost, but we need to ensure there’ll be more decentralisation in the future.

Just look at how Autistici/Inventati got shut down because one mad person on the other side of the world decided he didn’t like them. Good luck shutting down much more decentralised infrastructure. And this will only become more important, not less.

  • It’s not a good tool for research, it will just generate a hallucination and you end up doing something which does not work or just works somehow, but is not done correctly and will break in the future.

I talked to quite a few people recently at the postmarketOS and Alpine Linux conference, it definitely was noticed that more contributions are now coming in that do things wrong or in a subtly broken way and the submitting people have no clue.

If you rely on a lying computer for research, then your code will lie to you.

  • If you order from another place you’d be importing.

If, for example, you order something from China to somewhere in the European customs union, directly from China and not a European company, you’d be the importer and as such are responsible for following your country’s regulations.

Imagine being a seller and someone from another country, perhaps one you don’t know much about and one that is not in a customs union with the country you are in, orders something from you. There’s no reason you would have to comply with regulations of that country.
