  • This one appears to be sensationalist, but seeing bugs coming out of the woodwork in every layer of the stack makes you realize how vulnerable our giant tech stack is and always was. I think it’s time to hit reset and nuke the stack. Surely there is a way to create a low level, generic execution environment that doesn’t rely on this bloated ass stack. I don’t see why an application’s entire stack could not be auditable down to the machine instructions. Then, we wouldn’t all need access to super computers like today.

  • OOP dogma isn’t just bad, it’s actively harmful. OOP leads to unnecessary boilerplate. Any boilerplate that is not absolutely necessary is noise and bad. Full stop.

Private (Getters/setters): Strictly not a necessity in any sense of the word.

    Short functions everywhere.

    Short files everywhere.

I prefer to see the steps of execution that are actually happening in the real world on hardware. Not an ivory tower of code that happens to execute.

  • Never understood the idea of, “if it needs to be fast, that part is in a faster language.” Why not just use the faster language? Most of the libraries that have Python wrappers also come with c headers. Sometimes you wind up in the reverse situation where your dependency doesn’t have a Python wrapper and now you’re stuck managing silly boilerplate. Python just feels like an extra thing in the way to wrangle for little gain.

Also, hotspot-only optimization doesn’t seem to have held up in reality, right? We can all agree that software is getting slower every day. The infrastructure is slow.

All feels like cope, through and through.
