Organizations rot from the head, and there is often no way to change a company after 4 layers of management is hired by the bad leadership.
Long term computer programmer, making my own library. American based. Far left politically. Promotes use of paper ballots. Follows news about environmental collapse, political corruption in my country, human rights, science and tech.

Technology@lemmy.world•Trump’s Department of Homeland Security Secretly Ordered Cybersecurity Operatives to Acquire a Voting Machine and Hack It.English
17·19 days agoMost democracies do not use voting machines because it’s impossible to trust anyone with creating and maintaining it.
If there is a way to change the vote tallies, then clever people will use it to enrich themselves.
The only way to circumvent most cheating is by paper ballots recounted manually in front of representatives of all candidates: recounted as many times as asked; and the ballots must be kept in public view until a winner is declared.
Putting the ballots into any other device negates some or all of the above.
And I would only have to say this in American political posts. But Americans are married to voting in ways that cannot be verified, except in some states. So most likely what’s seen as common sense in most of the world is either ignored or viewed with suspicion here.
Ask any student in the uk though; and I’m just echoing what has been taught in school to young children

Technology@lemmy.world•Court Finds That Using Copyrighted Material as AI Training Data Is Not Fair Use: Could this be the moment copyright holders have been waiting for?English
1·1 month agoI’m cynically believing that this is the beginning of enforcing a copywrite use tax; when anyone generates something that is visual or audible.
The tax will be collected by the government and put into a slush fund that mostly goes to corporations and wealthy, while ostensibly supposed to go fairly to all creators

Programming@programming.dev•Ask Lemmy: What do you currently use for AI coding?
01·5 months agoI do not use AI to code; but I have been programming for two generations now.
I’ve taken a few breaks in that time, and switched technologies at least ten times also, and it’s very easy for me to forget a lot.
Programming is like any skill, it requires constant practice.
Am I a good programmer? Probably not that skilled, but I’ve written over a million lines of code and have run the gamut of architecture from: “Break this large file into 500 lines each, now we call that as a function” to “all numbers are object oriented” to “if it works great”
Middle America has a lot of unmet needs, with a horrible health care system and food insecurity. Most will gladly embrace anything that may help.
What many see as crazy politics is a desperate attempt to latch onto anything remotely promising.

I decided to try this with my gf, now am homeless, please help
