Would they actually lose those customers though? I prefer to buy physical whenever possible, but I still buy games that are only available digitally, or sometimes games that I just can’t get the physical copy of at a reasonable price. Sony’s banking on the expectation that people aren’t just going to stop buying games altogether in an all-digital future, they’ll buy digital once they no longer have a choice.
Decompliation projects are cool when they’re used to extend functionality beyond what could be done in the original game and romhacks. It’s awesome to see Super Mario 64 with uncapped framerate and a modern camera.
But a lot of these projects kinda seem like they’re not adding anything that can’t already be emulated. I suppose just having a decompilation is step one that can enable future enhancements, but it seems like recently there are far more of these being slopped out than there are modders interested in doing anything with them.
The fact that a lot of them are just slop now is kind of the problem.
J.K. Rowling is alive and doing active harm with the money she makes. And if you financially support her, whether directly or indirectly, you are helping her do harm.
Lovecraft is dead, meaning he can’t hurt anyone. Rowling actively uses the money she makes off the franchise to hurt people, and even the most indirect forms of advertisement for her IP ultimately help her profit and then use those profits to do harm.
They basically told us that if we don’t reopen they’ll simply remove us as moderators of the sub and reopen it themselves.
I moderated a large sub that participated in the blackout. Our mod team was threatened by the admins into reopening, and that’s when I knew I was done with the platform.
