You’re posting on a lemmy.world server community and they have rules against talking about illegal things in their countries (Netherlands, Finland, Germany). This includes calls of violence and they consider comments encouraging violence to be illegal/ against the rules. If you go to lemmy.world and scroll to bottom they link to their bylaws.

It started when the united health ceo was murdered. Anyone who showed support of it was getting moderated. Eventually they clarified that we can speak of factual things but we can’t make calls for further violence. So i can say i didn’t lose any sleep when the united health ceo was murdered. I cant say anything that calls for more violence against other ceos.

The fediverse is great but now you have an extra layer of rules: your server rules (dbzer0 is pretty good), server rules of whatever community you’re posting in, and the community rules of the comm you’re posting in.

Still gets less moderated than reddit mods who love to powertrip

  • The sun only rises after it sets because of inertia-- billions of years of the earth spinning. The earth only continues to spin because there’s hardly any friction on a meaningful scale to slow it down which is why we just assume the earth will continue to spin and the sun will rise tomorrow.

Products are different though. They constantly fight friction slowing them down and only exist because someone invests in them and continues to support them. When a company “sunsets” a product they are removing their active involvement. In this analogy the product slows to a stop and the “sun” doesn’t rise again.

It is still a pretty pretentious analogy though

  • Agree. I would not accept a server from someone else without nuking its contents, and i would not ask them to blindly trust hardware i give them. And of course then you would be on the hook for any maintenance. Better option is to set to a limited tunnel to your stack so they can access jellyfin or whatever and let them use it. Then offer that if they want help setting something up like this that you could help teach them
