I am going to go the other way and say the more, the merrier. I like to see new and interesting things that someone did to scratch an itch or solve a problem. I may not use it or agree with how they developed it or the license they chose, etc., but I still like seeing the posts about it.

I’ll tug on that thread… so can we not use Windows or macOS to develop OSS code on? It has to be on a Linux machine? What if the BIOS is closed source or it’s using binary blobs for the video drivers?

My point is that this is the reason to popularize a foundational framework that these vibe coders can pull from and have a baseline quality to them. Standardized license, skeleton project plan, etc. Then even if they are abandoned by the original, it could still be useful if further development is needed and it should meet a minimum quality standard.

Yea the EU doing sovereign data centers and sovereign AI (Mistral) is great. Gives me hope maybe I could emigrate with the skills I have.

My thoughts there are the AI tools brings about a whole new challenge that they are just completely walking away from, and that’s fine, but to say community is lost is absurd. It sounds like their community exploded and they decided it was too hard to collaborate now that there is 10x the number of participants.
New challenges that need to be solved are automation frameworks for ensuring quality of the decomp, automated testing to ensure faithful reproduction of bugs, etc. tons of more things that need to be done.
So walking away when they pioneered the community is one thing, if they want to leave the next chapter for someone else to pick up the reigns, but refusing to acknowledge the new community is quite frankly disheartening.

I’ve literally done both in my lifetime. Soap as a kid and banana peel as an adult and laughed my ass off that it was even possible.

It’s not just about trust but if access was suddenly cut off they may not be able to pivot as quickly as needed to a US based platform. Also it’s entirely reasonable to expect these tools to be able to analyze the environment they run and determine, invisibly to the user, to decide to set up a backdoor. I mean who is actually reviewing the vibe coded bs?

Agreed they’re responsible for the work they hire. I also don’t know the story here. Did they make restitution? Did they fire the contractor?

Liability is one reason, but expertise in the specific work is primary.

Directly responsible though is a huge fucking stretch and distorts the truth.

I seriously doubt Microsoft was the construction company that damaged the grave. They would have contracted them likely a sub of a sub of a sub. Microsoft likely chose the location and awarded the bids but it’s insane to claim Microsoft was directly responsible for that specific damage.

Your emotions are legitimate.

Don’t worry, it will likely just be the ratchet locking into place, based on what I heard about the 100 days plan.

I wonder why that is… what could have possibly been exposed that might lend a clue as to what is going on with a huge spike in children being “arrested by ICE”.
I dunno, sounds like socialism to me.
