Hmm, yeah I don’t think this medium of communication is able to carry the nuances, because I also agree that the notion of “I already do bad thing, so more bad thing is fine” is wild and I’m confused if you took that from my message. I’d like to think most people who have employed some common sense and want good for the world would agree with that statement! What I’m trying hard to communicate on this forum and seeing a lot of resistance toward is that the repetitive divergent anger (maybe we call this rage?) toward something is not constructive. I understand it’s a natural human reaction and has its place, but at some point I’d like to see humanity take radical responsibility for our shared involvement in the roles that contribute to why the world is how it is today. I would argue we’ve been fairly unconscious about it, but now that the internet exists and we have this ability to exchange ideas across vast amounts of space, we can use the tools at our disposal in a spectrum of ways that range from good to bad. How can we make space for our human experience, but then also apply collective wisdom to make well-informed actionable steps forward?

how sad that’s what you decided to highlight…
I don’t have to actively boycott Coca Cola, I just don’t drink it. I would argue equally that the people who are actively boycotting it should put their time toward something more constructive like reviving the soil.
ah, okay bravo 👏 I might gamble that statistics would be more on my side with those, but I think the point I’m trying to get across is still valid which is there is a lot of bad shit going on in this world that we are complicit in to some degree just by participating in society. Arguably, for example, even using the US dollar is promoting a war-fueled economy. Of course, I still use it, because the decentralized sovereign alternatives do not yet let give me the liquidity I’d like. I came to this sub looking to learn and mostly all I see are people getting angry about things they don’t like in a way that is not effective. Do they have the right to do so? Sure! I also have a right to be critical of it and say this is not the learning environment I was hoping for coming from reddit. I would rather go somewhere I can have constructive conversation over positive things within our control because there’s only so much time in the day and I don’t spend it all on my computer.
i’d be curious if you eat chicken from the supermarket? Have you ever lived next to a chicken factory, breathed and listened to that one? Do you drink Coca Cola? Sorry to break it to you, but we’re all complicit in things that are destroying nature and humanity and just because you’ve desensitized yourself to the other ones don’t mean they’re not happening. You can rage all you want at each one, but it’s not going to be constructive. At some point we just have to come to terms with reality that we’re also responsible for this reality and I don’t agree with AI’s effects on nature either, but I think if we’re smart we can leverage its capabilities in the window of opportunity available with the people who are most capable (good developers) to create pathways leading toward better things. Or just go yell and rage some more, as you wish.
alright, i’m disengaging from this echo box… everyone should go outside and sit in nature for a while
Rage is uncontrolled anger… it’s not helping anyone and certainly not the person experiencing it. If you can find a way to channel that anger into something constructive, then you are doing something beneficial for all
or imagine a reality where AI just exists alongside other things. Stop catastrophizing

let’s see, i woke up and did jiu jitsu. I went to the local vegetable market with my dog, bought some breakfast and got some coffee and practiced my Spanish with the vendor. I spoke with a nice lady about art residencies and her desire to live an alternative lifestyle even though shes 75. I had a conversation about iterative prisoner’s dilemma game theory. Then I came home and now I’m replying to your low dimensional attempt at an insult, while spending some tokens to fix a form validation bug across a web app 💙
believe it or not i have the ability to still use my mind even when there are tools at my disposal! And I was at the local veggie market talking to people during that hour, so sadly again your narrative is wrong 😞 your response, however, pretty low effort… might need to throw a captcha at you
i came to this forum thinking i’d find interesting stuff and it’s mostly just people getting angry at reality
stop trying to force a reality that fits your narrative

There are places where it’s useful and if you’re smart you’ll also keep your brain balanced and sharp.
Not everyone will survive this shift in reality - NPC’s are all around.
If you want my honest answer, it requires a community of diverse people you trust so that the people who are capable of exploring this territory can figure out how to use it and it’s our duty to keep them from going into the void.

22·3 days agoI hate the billionaire class, big tech and I love the environment - but don’t tell me I can’t drink Coca Cola (or literally any off-the-shelf drink) and I’m ordering too much on Amazon! Once we take the radical responsibility that we’re all a part of this problem, we can start taking logical informed steps forward that don’t involve divergent emotions like hatred.

01·1 month agoI wish that were true but I don’t know that it’s the case. People need something that gives them utility. It seems like everyone is oversaturated these days trying to reconcile the evil that’s being illuminated around the world. I understand the intention, I just don’t think it’s ultimately effective.

02·1 month agobut I’m honestly curious, what is this movement against him going to accomplish? I do not know this DHH character nor do I care to listen to anything he says. If he’s as bad as all of these accusations make him out to be then he’s someone who’s just going to write off all of this and/or it’ll fuel him.
I’m genuinely curious, what is the real value or impact of this crusade versus putting that energy toward something constructive? While everyone here is writing about fascism, him and capitalism will keep developing.
It’s just all sounds like terribly futile tactics…
I had originally linked it, but damn! to be honest i want to have nothing to do with whatever is going on here and I’m just going to keep building stuff toward open-source decentralized future using whatever tools I have at my disposal to close the distance. I’m no trained software developer (learned C++ and python from mech engineering & physics) that can reliably maintain a repo people might depend on and this just seems like people flinging shit around. Noooo thank you

02·1 month agoVoicing again my agreement, all of this energy going against DHH could be put into a fork and that would be way more powerful and effective of a move.
It’s got kind of a tai chi element - move in the direction of the vector don’t try to go against it. It’s popular for a reason, and you don’t have to throw the baby out with the bath water. There are many things today that you could hyperfocus on the evil aspect of that people still use in their daily lives because it brings them utility.
I used Omarchy and it inspired me to make a NixOS version of it that I called Omnixient :) Thanks to the open-source nature I now have my own awesome config that has brought me a lot of fulfillment and productivity I did not have before.
it’s fine, i’m just commenting that it’s getting tiring and I don’t see people doing something constructive with that anger on a forum where my perception is there are a lot of intelligent people who have power from technical understanding that carries a lot of power. I have a need to see progress and structure through collective wisdom as I think that is lacking.
