It’s the basic shape of one of the Batmobiles, but without any of the details that made it interesting.
Like pitching a movie based on the “Titanic” but the boat makes it to port safely–completely missing the point.

A Pillars are perfectly capable of hiding whole ass cars, too.
Turning out of my apartment’s driveway and entering the roundabout are two places I am regularly almost creamed thanks to the safety provided by a hefty A Pillar.

Imagine going to jail for 20 years to discover the secrets of a company that will be a junk stock next year.

Why is that? The electricity burned is about the same, no? Of course, the impact is more distributed.
I think the difference would be that local machines aren’t subsidized, so you’d see people get a lot more skittish after that first electric bill. Data centers are like railroad tracks from the railroad boom (if they’d made the rails out of licorice twizzlers.)

With the added wrinkle that there are expensive things that may be necessary-ish, but when you exclusively use it for those things, the price jumps up to insanity.
Now that people are shunting easier requests to local models and sending the harder problems out, the hyper scalers have less income, so they have to charge more.
Because eventually the only real limitation will be hardware, that kind of AI will be a rarely-used commodity priced only slightly above what it would cost you to recreate it inside your business.
Not to mention the privacy concerns you’d have sending your expensive and necessary compute to the cloud.

Tragically, the people I saw most often have their lunch delivered by expensive apps were the people’s whose mom’s would have loved to pack them a lunch in the morning.

god damn, i’ll know i’ll be doing the right thing with my life when my home gets raided by the feds for some bullshit.
I don’t trust people who have no enemies.

Guessing re-creating a whole ass person with a personality that considers everything you’ve told it is actually quite a bit more expensive than people want to pay for.
Anyway, it’s good news if these freaks start running their bots locally instead.

Our product is so dangerous that you need us to keep you safe from it
I hear similar arguments from men about men.

LLM’s comprehend statistical correlations. If you feed it every chess game, it can tell you which spaces the knight is likely to move to, and which it very unlikely to move to, but it does not understand how the knight moves.
You might say that’s a distinction without a difference, but programs can actually know thing, like a chess program actually does know how a knight moves, and it does so with minimal electricity.

Sort of.
I think Turing thought, “well something that could do this would surely HAVE to be intelligent”, but I seriously doubt that he would have waved the white flag for an intelligence that can convincingly mimic human communication but can’t count letters in a word.

Same thing we do every night: try to take over the world.

Maybe OP’s opinion is what’s being downvoted?

Is there any amount of money that can unfuck a codebase after 20 years of rot?

The mindset of programming is completely different than rubber stamping/tweaking slop… don’t know where they are going to get real developers in 20 years.

Yes, there’s a reason the daily news was traditionally printed alongside Doonesbury.
I don’t have the full context for old Pogo strips (another Breathed inspiration, I feel), but I’m rarely completely lost at sea.

Not beating those cult accusations, are they?
If you love someone, run them locally.
