Yep all of that is super interesting, and I’ve seen some people on YouTube make it that interesting but I rarely saw any examples like that in all my time in uni. When I first learned calculus the professor drew the speed of the car on a graph, and said how far did it travel in this time? Well it’s the area under the curve. Instantly connects it to something tangible and useful, rather than saying “the derivative is the slope of the line at this point.” I learned what a binary tree was and sort of how to make it, but I essentially had to relearn it anyway when I actually came across a situation where I needed it.

Yeah just for me personally I also really liked making things as efficient as possible, but I thought data structures and algorithms were lame because I had zero context around it.

Maybe that’s just how it’s taught though, because there are really cool examples of what data structures to use and why. For instance if you have npcs with attacks that all have different cooldowns, and a central system that applies the attacks, what’s the best way to store it? A min tree is O(log n) on insertion, so that seems best, but what if it’s very likely an attack is invalidated and you need to remove it before it triggers? Lots of interesting concepts to consider there, instead of just “this does x and has y properties, so it’s good in this use case.”

imo these are things you learn if you really want to understand coding deeply and write good code, not if you just want to make some software. I also don’t know if you would really understand what you’re seeing unless you know why you need it, at least that was the case for me. I majored in CS and most of my understanding still comes from how I actually ended up using things, and most of it never fully clicked until a couple years of using it.

She did but all we got was 24/7 coverage of “what do you have to say about israel Palestine” because apparently ukraine doesnt exist and neither do Americans or our healthcare or iran or any other issue in the world that she was infinitely better on.

Don’t forget gutting USAID and research funding, including children’s cancer research, so they can instead pay for the hired thugs in ICE. Legitimately one of the most shameful things the US has ever done in terms of deaths caused, in the short and long term.

^^^^^^ the protest non voters are part of why so many Ukrainians are dying, why Israel has stronger and more deadly weapons, why climate change just got massively accelerated, why research funding and USAID got gutted (including life saving vaccines and children’s cancer research). some many of you will die but not me so that’s a price I’m willing to pay.

Go watch someone debate a flat earther, something that we have mountains of evidence to disprove. Anyone who has not spent massive amounts of time researching will make the flat earther seem like they are 100% correct. I know those are conspiracies the same way I know the earth is not flat, but I’m not willing to spend 200 hours researching it for no actual gain in knowledge.

The fact that several things I did know were misrepresented to me (Biden supported the crime bill, but leave out that black Americans also supported it) makes me highly skeptical of everything else, which further proves to me that the rest were conspiracy theories. I can’t respond to every conspiracy but, black communities supported the crime bill as well, when it turned out it was harming black communities it should have been repealed, but Biden doesn’t have the benefit of hindsight to know not to support the bill. It’s also much harder to repeal a bad bill than to create it.

US foreign policy has always been atrocious, that has nothing to do with whether a party is fascist or not. If you want to say both parties have terrible foreign policy I would agree, but the Republicans canceling USAID, tearing up the Iran nuclear deal, and supporting Russia is clearly MUCH worse than what dems were doing.

It’s just rewriting history, Biden was unbelievably outspoken in his support for Ukraine, was sending them aid, had terrible views of Russia. With Republicans we get a war with Iran and we suck Russia off and tell Ukraine get bent. We can see what the two parties did during this war, we don’t have to guess. Democrats have been with Ukraine since day 1, Republicans against. Trump cut off all Ukraine aid as fast as he could, Biden sent it as fast as he could, there is no mystery there.

Well one party didn’t try to overthrow the election, stop our votes from being counted, call for violence against their dissenters, pardon the people who tried to take control of the government by force, remove anyone who tried to prosecute them, remove anyone who didn’t fall behind them. But I mean the dems didn’t make life changing bills, only generally positive ones while having a majority of checks notes 1 seat. Republicans are an ocean of fascism and dems are a bucket, but I guess it’s better to lose all our rights, help Russia invade Ukraine, and destroy the planet instead of voting for those fascist dems :3
