Felons should be able to vote!
I like stinky tofu a lot. I’m Canadian. I’m excited to see my country grow. I’m new to lemmy. I prefer local communities over public ones, until I’m convinced otherwise. I’m bad at writing bios.

Canada@lemmy.ca•I asked some companies about their plans for Bill C-22
3·7 days agoAgreed. I read it as they’re going to fully comply. They’re a relatively conservative Taiwanese company so it tracks with what I know of their corporate culture. Synology is basically Taiwanese Nintendo in that regard.
I keep my NAS off the internet but do occasionally connect to update packages from Package Manager. I may have to start doing those updates offline as well.
Edit: btw here’s a local and offline script I found long ago for activating Synology features offline that normally require registration (which requires accepting their TOS and privacy policy). Things like advanced codecs, Synology Drive features, etc. It has worked for me relatively recently. Use an adblocker when visiting just to be safe, as always. Here it is.
At least it will TRIM the datacentres

12·7 days agoYou’re an American telling a non-American how America needs to be treated…
Sorry bud but you don’t get to dictate the way non-Americans feel or act. We’ve been responding to this shit for years, we already know how bad it is.
Americans are ultimately responsible for how long this shitshow continues. So maybe spend less time lecturing non-Americans about America and spend more time lecturing your countrymen.
Edit: I have no personal qualms with you. I don’t know you. This isn’t solely about you. I hope that’s clear.

4·7 days agoI’m not in America. My country and its citizens already treat it as a threat largely. It’s still a joke of a country regardless.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Four companies control two-thirds of Canada’s grocery market. In the US, the top four account for about a third.
5·8 days agoIf you ever see an item in the grocery store that says “Prepared in Canada”, it means nothing of value, avoid them for their deceptive practices.
Depending on where you live there are likely farmers’ markets and/or local producers within a reasonable drive. In my experience it can range as far as price, and flavour is almost always better.
At least it’s a way to reduce reliance and dependence on this oligopoly.

2·8 days agoOur education system really is broken. I’ve seen it firsthand. It’s not just a matter of me or others being in a different generation, but rather it’s in terms of their critical thinking, social skills, handwriting, etc.
The younger generation got messed up by Covid in terms of schooling as well.
And for mother fucking fuck’s sake, disallow phones in school during school hours!

Edit: and if you think there are communities worth crossposting in please lmk! I don’t normally crosspost but if it will help more Canadians in any way then I’m all for it
