  • I get your point, but the issue isn’t that easy as I have read. Most of these ‘saboteurs’ are very young people with little life experience who are exploited. EuroChild, a cildren welfare charity, says about Ukrainian teenagers hired on social media:

The average age is 14–16. Motivations include curiosity, financial need, desire to earn their own income, desire to belong or revenge for personal loss. Many children lived in vulnerable families or lacked adult supervision. Some had prior trauma or exposure to violence.

According to EuroChild, there is a clear pattern of exploitation:

    • Targeting and initial contact: through social media, messaging apps, gaming platforms.
    • Trust-building: friendly tone, “safe” tasks, patriotic framing.
    • Escalation of assignments: from taking photos to physical sabotage.
    • Criminal entrapment: recruiters collect videos or screenshots to use as leverage.
    • Blackmail and coercion: “Do what we say or we’ll report you.”
    • Full dependency: fear, guilt, and loyalty trap the child.

It’s maybe comparable with the development on Lemmy. Many of the so-called ‘tankies’ are very young, often in their teenage years, with a vulnerable social background (read the posts and comments in the .ml comms). These people needed help to develop their personalities, but are exploited instead by a brutal propaganda machine that makes them parrot its disinformation.

  • I commented on this in another thread, but it fits also here:

Either Putin must be very desperate to discuss this with his secretary in the White House or there is something I don’t see.

Trump reportedly agreed with Putin to “immediately” supply more than 0.3m tons of diesel fuel into the U.S. and global markets, another 0.5m tons in November, followed by another 1m ton and then an additional 3m tons of diesel “within a short period of time,” based on the condition of Russian refineries.

That’s a total of 4,8m tons over the next months. Russia measures diesel quantities in tons, so the 4.8m tons are equal to a bit more than 35.5m barrels, the measure used by world markets.

Even if this agreement materializes - which is everything but sure imho - it must be a complete nothing burger.

Refineries in the U.S. are churning out some four to five million barrels every day, according to EIA, the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The majority of this volume - around 3.6m barrels - is consumed domestically, the rest is exported.

So even if Russia is able to deliver this volume of 35m barrels, the volume is equivalent to what is consumed domestically in the U.S. within less than just 10 days. In the world market this volume is next to nothing.

This must be a nothing burger imo. But I am not an expert for oil markets, so maybe someone with more expertise can give me a hint.

  • That website is literally, ENTIRELY devoted to fear mongering about China, find a less biased source.

Nah, it’s not. This is a very good source.

But, for you, as you are so friendly and arguing in good faith, I can tell you there is more. In “How Extreme Parties in the European Parliament Can Shape EU-China Relations” (pdf), the Association for International Affairs in Prague provides an excellent analysis with a similar conclusion,

… Anticipated gains [in future European election] for both far-right and far-left wings […] are likely to favour more China-friendly votes. As these groups increase their representation, the dynamic within the EP [European Parliament] is expected to evolve toward a stance that is less critical of China. This shift could make it increasingly difficult to promote or sustain China-sceptic policies, as the balance of power may tilt towards those advocating for stronger ties with China.

This shift could manifest in softened rhetoric, reduced support for strong trade or human rights stances against China, and increased advocacy for engagement and cooperation. Such changes would affect the policy debates and resolutions within the European Parliament. As such, understanding these electoral dynamics and their potential impact on EU policies is crucial for stakeholders and policymakers who need to anticipate and respond to the changing geopolitical landscape …

So, it’s another reason to fight the European far-right and far-left, as both are closely aligned with China and Russia.

Another sign that there is not much difference between the far-right and the far-left. Maybe the Horseshoe Theory applies? I am not a political scientist, maybe there is one around and can elaborate more.
