News@lemmy.world•Amazon Is Gutting Its AI Division After Sustained FailureEnglish
9·5 天前Instead, labor and computing power are being diverted toward a singular “frontier-model effort” led by Pieter Abbeel, director of the Berkeley Robot Learning Lab whose robotics company Covariant was hoovered up by Amazon in 2024. At the time Abbeel joined the tech giant, Covariant’s founders were working on AI models for robots, which lines up pretty well with Amazon’s push to automate everything it possibly can.
I’m wondering how long it will be until corporations will have their own private robot security forces to suppress any remaining unionizing employees and terrorize protesters. 😬
I’m so flattered that you you see me as a grown ass man <3
I would wait and hide, allowing the T-Rex to tire itself out. Then one night, when the T-Rex was especially tired and soundly asleep, I would carefully climb into the T-Rex’s cloaca. There I would stay for the rest of the month.
That’s it, you can keep the 500 million. I’ve already won.

19·6 天前Supermarkets allow their freezers to connect to the internet so that maintenance and monitoring can occur remotely.
Sure, but they’re still not electable.
What? The risk of an unelectable third party is that it bleeds enough votes to cause the majority party to lose. It’s kind of the main drawback of the two party system.

politics @lemmy.world•Massive Leak Exposes 41,000 Homeland Security Workers—Including Undercover ICE AgentsEnglish
32·11 天前Someone is definitely doing something by hacking, leaking, and publishing internal DHS data, and some of them at least are American.
In the spirit of alarmism, I think it is perfectly justified and accurate to refer to the so-called “ICE Detention Centers” as what they are - Concentration Camps - places where ethnic and political groups are concentrated in terrible conditions without adequate legal justification and recourse.
Most Americans lack the education, experience, or means to fully understand and resist this wave of modern fascism, and federal actions are designed to take advantage of that weakness. The rest may be inclined to go along with it. However, it’s a fact that the majority of Americans are not happy with their current government, and I think it’s a mistake to confuse inaction or trepidation with apathy.
If Americans can’t be bothered to show up and vote to these midterms in record turnouts, then I fear you might be right.

47·15 天前“Her mom says she lied about being raped when she was 12” is one hell of a political platform when gas is $7 a gallon.

This hyper-normalized false reality is a hallmark of narcissists, authoritarians, and despots. It is the very reason that Soviet fascism failed - each lie is a debt incurred to the truth; a loan whose interest is paid by the people stuck with the bill when the bubble pops.
