If you haven’t figured it out by now, Mark Carney is a Steven Harper era Conservative.

This is most of what I was going to say.

I’d say he’s pragmatic in his goals, and sounds like he’s very authoritarian in his style. The same could certainly be said about Harper, and I’d say it also applied to Chretien.

If I had to choose between a Harper era conservative and a Poilievre era conservative, I’d pick the Harper era. What I’d really like is to have more than those two choices, and doing so actually making a change to the makeup of Parliament.

I would disagree for two reasons:

        • we had Harper-era conservatives as an option already, and we’re forgetting how bad it was because we remember them at their accidentally-least-worst when they were bumbling at being cruel bootstrap elitists.
        • even if Carney at his worst were like Harper at his best, that shows how Carney retains potential that Harper and the cons just don’t have.

In short: Carney’s situation is the cons’ policy. The two are not the same.

Justin Trudeau and Mark Carney will never give Canada proportional representation they hate democracy and neither are “pragmatic.”

I honestly can’t see either the Liberals or Conservatives giving us proportional representation because politicians, especially political leaders, want power, the more the better, and although having proportional representation would give Liberals power for decades to come, it would never give them as much power as they have now when they hold a majority.
