Wow I wonder why. Anyway I’m gonna go listen to sad music about how the writer can’t afford to buy the love of his life a house and think about how I can’t afford to buy the love of my life a house because I’m drowning in student loan debt as I work 70+ hours every week even though I did everything “right” and have a great job on paper.
I hope you’re not middle-aged and still paying back student debt.
It took me 10 years of poverty to pay mine back, but at least that’s not a middle-aged problem for me – and I hope not for you too!
Not quite. I’m still within that poverty decade and I’ll probably finish up right around the ten year mark absent the huge economic leap I’ve been killing myself for for a while now, but that’ll always be a Hail Mary. But paying more than most people’s mortgage in loan payments to get it paid off within a decade because I was born with nothing doesn’t exactly make me les than bitter. 🤷♂️
Edit: to be clear this is debt from grad school. I worked two manual labor jobs for a while to pay down my undergrad debt quickly.
Anybody got a mirror? Paywalled.

Thanks s champ! That’s short for champion btw
Guns, employment issues, social expectations, social isolation and addiction (alcohol, drugs, gambling)
I’ve read other articles.
Can’t get through the paywall. It’s probably a combination of all that manosphere garbage, skyrocketing wealth inequality and skyrocketing cost of living paired with the realization that voting for a fascist didn’t help with any of that. The 1950s had a really high suicide rate for middle aged men too. Aside from the PTSD from ww2 the fascist oppressive heavily gender roled society wasn’t good for men’s mental health either. Just seems like a interesting coincidence
Good thing store bought beer is cheap and beer from the pub costs an arm and a leg, more to isolate with.
Yeah, I’ve thought about it too.
