minus-squaredalekcaan@feddit.nllinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up0·8 days agoEven if you do need 100 TB of storage, I feel like it’d be a lot better to have multiple smaller drives rather than one massive one. To be fair, though, I’d expect such large drives to be targeted mostly to commercial customers.

minus-squareOnomatopoeia@lemmy.cafelinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up0·8 days agoYou should’ve been backing things up already. “If you have one, you have none”. Without proper backup your data is just waiting to disappear at the first unrecoverable failure.

minus-squareScratch@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·1 day agoI meant to get back to ask you what you meant by this. My (novice-level) understanding was R5 would give you redundancy and a way to restore one of your drives if it went down unrecoverably. Is that just wrong, or it doesn’t count as a backup?
minus-squarejumping redditor [they/them]@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up0·1 day agoit works thst way if a drive fails, yes, but not if your computer crashes in the wrong way or you accidentally delete a file. A backup has protection against these.
